Magog report 3/23
« on: Mar 23, 2018, 08:40 PM »
got to the twins at 3 this afternoon. The access was a little rough so I went outside the tracks, but I ended up breaking through a little; no biggy. Drove around and punched holes only to catch some small perch. Around 430 I popped a new hole and it was full of fish. Dropped down and before i made it all the way I had a fish on. WHITE PERCH! For the next 2 hours I caught some nice whites and slab yellows. Getting off the lake was a little sketchy but plan on going out there this weekend. Idk what to think about the whites being in there. I caught them before but not like what I did today, and they had size today too. Curious what happens to the lake. Pike are already starting to replace the lakers in there.

Nice job on the catch. Its always nice when the perch are aggressive and you're hauling up cheeseburgers.  ;D

How is the ice holding up and access?

Staging near the Johns river, we got into them last weekend there.
Edges are getting rough.
Your right about the pike taking over, we caught couple dozen this year near the islands.

You know, I started closer to the johns and only caught a few, I didn't get into them until I moved in the middle of the lake. 24' fow.

Is there any good parking near John's river/ the islands or do you have to hoof it from the boat launch? I'm on foot and it's an 1.5 hr drive from Orange.
Thanks.

The islands are accessed from eagle point on the Eastern part of the lake. There is a little bay people park along the road or in the small pull off 100yds past the bay. Islands are a .5mile hike from there the river come in just south of the bay and is .3 miles away. You will want to avoid the getting too close to any of the points as submerged rocks go out 100ft from those points and create weak ice. But if u do a big seeeping semi circle from the access u will have no issues.

You won't have any problems with the ice there. There is still 30+". I just got off the ice. Whites are still in there.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind for next time.

I ended up parking at the boat launch for the John river access, packed up all the gear in the sled and slapped on some skis to get around. Made it out to the islands and worked back towards the shallows towards the access. I got into some midrange perch and smelt, but it was a slow bite. No whites, but it was the first go. I'd like to get into them.

Overall a beautiful day on the ice.  :)

Good question. There has only been a couple people out there lately. When I was there Sunday, there was probably 30" if not s little more. Almost the whole auger. I plan on going tmro morning as well, by the islands. But if access isn't nice I'll be by hermans.

Hey if anyone heads out on the ice today 3/31, can you send an ice report please. It was about 30" last weekend, but I'm sure that has changed. I'm thinking of heading up there tomorrow morning and try my luck around the islands.
Thanks.  @)

Not good, edges are real sketchy. Lost alot of ice this week.
Holes are opening up and most of the ice is white with 4-8" of black underneath.
Today was my last day out there.

Excellent--thank you very much for the update. Saves me a 3+ hr drive. I'll probably keep it local tomorrow.

Happy spring all.  ;)

Did anyone catch any fish on Saturday? We had a terrible day. Killed more beer than fish and we only brought a 12 pack.

We had a couple of runs but nothing great. I got 18 or 20 keepers that's it.
Slow.
Looking forward to spring walleyes.

How does Magog look?

Is she all locked up or is the south bay open for business?

Thanks
