Was thinking a bout giving Dief a try this season. Where are some of the communal fishing spots where a guy can go and cut his teeth on. I'll be travelling from Saskatoon. From what I heard there is Coteau Bay, the trout farm, and the spillway are good areas to try. What is a good starting depth when looking for perch and walleye on Dief?

In the winter I've found walleye in the 25 FOW range.  Perch can be anywhere between 15-35 FOW, but not exclusively.  If you can find large flat areas of around 20 FOW, I've found perch to like those areas.  The lake is so big, I would invest in a flasher so you can explore.  Be mobile and move until you find them.
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

Anyone been out yet?  Looking to go towards Beaver Flat or Prairie Lake but not sure if there's enough ice yet.

With only a few inches of ice on the lake in some spots I would definitely give it a lot more time. If Sask Watershed decides to let water out of the dam, that ice will be crazy unstable.

5 inches in Pumphouse bay (not at the back, half way in).
8+ inches at the back of Coteau (middle of the mouth of irrigation bay).
Landed one nice walleye, had a bunch of pike and perch on cam that wouldn't commit.

The pumphouse bay has 6 to 8 inch of ice tonight 20 yards from shore. The big lake is almost covered with ice plus half an inch of snow.

Not heard about Coteau Bay, but the big lake near Gardiner dam has been reclaimed by open water.

Has anybody been near the trout farm this year?
Can you get close to the shore by truck off their road?

Coteau is good to go still, 8+ inches of ice. Slow bite but caught a few pike, walleye and perch.
