anybody using Ice flys?
« on: Mar 07, 2013, 04:17 PM »
Just wondering if anyone uses the little jig with feathers like the FOO FOO s. or how about the scud type wet flys? Never see these for sale at gander or hear anyone using them much anymore. If anyone uses them, do you put any type of bait on them? Thanks in advance.

Old topic I know, but if anyone was still interested I just sold 60 scuds to perch fishermen, yes they work!

not often unless the fish are shallow and finicky. Its hard to get them down 40 feet plus which is where I'm normally fishing for them.

Try drop shotting them using a jig as your weight.

I use a small spoon for jigging and will use a fly as a dropper 12-18" above that... Anything that looks buggy has potential... I've even had luck with ant imitations.

I tie the dropper pretty short, so the stiffness of the mono line will hold it away from the main line a little bit.

I've used a scud/freshwater shrimp pattern I tie with good success.  Also tie some small beadhead larvae that work well
