Tubes for Northern
« on: Feb 14, 2011, 10:28 PM »
I was wondering if anyone uses tube plastics for northern.  I have started jigging for northern and am looking for different jigs/baits to try.  Was wondering how everyone rigs these up?  Do you just use a normal gumball jig with them or a specific type of jig.  Any info would be great.

I use white tube jig bodys for lakers and all i do is take a standard lead head, stick it inside the tube, poke the eye of the jug head through the tube and stretch the tube down and poke the hook through.i think you can buy them already done. than use a minnow and make a stinger trail from back of hook and hook minnow to that also.

Air plane jigs with 1/2 a cisco or a couple of shiners/small smelt have been working really well this winter for me.

I have used the Mr. Twister Exude tube for pike with some luck in the past.
I usually just use a regular ball head jig and only slide it half way into the tube so it spins on the drop.

The Northland slurpies tubes that look like baitfish work to.

Don't chase Pike much, just a change of pace. Have taken a few nice ones this year on 4" Venom Bad Blood tubes, White/Red core. 1/2oz Red generic jighead in front and a #10 treble stinger I made with steel wire. Been using a red steel leader on the line and they've been hit hard

I've been using a 6" white tube on a 1 1/2  oz glow jig and have been doing pretty good.
Go fish.
