Last year was a decent year for Morels. I spent many days  last spring picking and searching when not fishing. Lingon berry( low bush cranberry's) and blueberry's kept us real busy later in the summer . We eat tons of wild blueberry's so I hope this is another good season for them as well.  Mix of sun and plenty of moisture is needed, soil type and habitat come into play. Do some homework and get out there its good exercise as well as rewarding when u hit them. Good luck, fish safe.

Ya low lying areas in thinner bushes that get a faor bit of sun to the ground. My general rule pf thimb is to start looking around mothers day and for about a week after

If you have Apple trees that far up? Check around them can be a hot spot.

The year after a forest fire must be good for some kind of mushroom. I have seen camps setup with 50-100 plus people picking mushrooms and buyers  setup onsite to purchase them.

everything that burned last summer will be prime morel picking. Most of western Montana burnt to the ground last summer and there will be mushrooms everywhere in 4 months or so.

No, no giant puffballs.  We do harvest mussels when morels are out of season though. http://www.bbc.com/news/av/stories-43035898/risky-dinner-foraging-for-food-under-the-frozen-sea-ice

White oaks, elm, aspens, apple, all good indicators...

Blacks, are first, then gray, then white morels, I find whites about the same time may apples are in bloom...

igloo land  hahahah  I almost spit my coffee onto the screen

No giant puffballs here  have seen small ones.
We also have these red and golden coloured capped ones that seem to grow most in jackpine tree areas.
Really easy to find, and come up fast after a good rain in mid summer

Adirondacks is a beauty area of the us.

back to the igloo...

Base of the same oak trees, same place on the tree, every year, very tasty, and big too! One big hen, is would take 40-50 morels to equal....

We usually pick them around the May Long weekend.  The places we target are aspen woods that have water (marsh) near by.  Some great years.  Tried picking around Chitek lake a few times but not as good as the east side of the province.  Nothing like fresh morels with dill in a cream sauce.
A good fire through a pine stand is also a great place the year after the fire.
