Got out today

Hey fellas, the itch has been killing me so i ventured to a pond hoping for open water. Much to my suprise it was locked up. No bigger then three acres and there was about 3/4 to an inch of ice. Hopped in the john boat and busted my way out to the spot. Then just knocked a whole in the ice, dropped in the vex and got after em! Caught about 15 little gills, and two crappies (one was about 11") all in all a good time. Ice might be here sooner the. You think.

Well, I didn't get out but I did drive out to Lake Carlton in Morrison, IL. There was skim ice but still open water in the middle and by the bait shop. I thought the bait shop area would be frozen over first. I am tempted to go to the end of a dock and punch through, drop in the locator and start jigging. Maybe on Monday after the Christmas festivities are over.
