How thick is your ice?
« on: Nov 22, 2020, 04:59 PM »
I drilled a hole this afternoon at the end of my dock to test ice depth, it was 5".  The dock, boat house/hangar is in a cove, so it did freeze a day or two before the main lake, but with temperatures forecast to be below freezing from now on, ice fishing is not too far away.  Any sign of ice in your area, if so, how thick is it?

With the exception of some high country lakes, we’re still on open water with the fluctuations in temperatures. Cold front on the way, so maybe by Thanksgiving?

We had 2.5"-3.5" of clear solid ice all weekend in Northern Minnesota. Sun honeycombed it mid day today and turned it sketch. Few cold nights coming up should help.

I'm being teased with ice that's not nearly safe enough. it did give me the itch to start going thru my stuff so it will be dialed in when it's time to go. hoping for a severe & extended cold snap.

30 miles west of Chicago. No ice yet but woke up today to some snow. Hopefully we are moving in the right weather direction.

Should have had my hardside out 2 weeks ago but my back is all messed up and I’m not even going to be able to shoot some caribou this weekend.  If I had to guess judging by our temps we should have well over 12-15 inches by now.  The temp at the lake right now is -9 and it only warmed up to that yesterday.  Man I hate back problems.

Sylvan Lake Alberta 6.5" to top of the hole.

I've seen 2 pic's on Facebook here in AB & BC were vehicles have already went through, just not safe yet.

Sad to say for the Denver, and front range the climate change over the last dozen years has amounted to less thickness each year.  My home lake water temp is holding near 44*  :(

In the last 10 years I have seen 2 years with zero ice in N.E. Ohio.
Hoping this year is not a remake.  I miss Maine
