best tow bar?
« on: Oct 30, 2018, 07:40 PM »
I'm in need of a tow bar to haul my Clam portable with the 4 wheeler.  With so many brands out there can I get some advise from you guys that are using them?  Would like to make a wise purchase and get a reliable set up     Thanks ???

I have the otter 62 and can haul quite a load in my magnum sled.  They are not cheap but pretty stout.  With some conduit, cable, clamps and quality beaners you can build a good one for cheap.  I had a Jet Sled tow bar that failed quickly and rebuilt it with similar components.  Its held up for years.

I really like my Shappell HD hitches. We use them to tow Jet Sled XLs and I don't know if they are compatible with your Clam.  I bought an extra one this year to adapt to my custom ice fishing sled.

I prefer to make my own out of steel or aluminum square tubing

I have the Clam Pro hitch and it is both super strong and well designed.

It has a handle that makes for easy pulling when moving it by hand.
It uses a unique easy On/Off system that makes it simple to store it and the sled.
The length of the telescopic tongue is easily adjustable to optimize pulling by ATV, Snowmobile or Snowdog.
There is a super strong bracket that mounts across the inside of the sled that secures the two points where the hitch attaches to the sled. Much stronger than the bolts/washers or small brackets I saw on the competition.

Very glad with the purchase.

even though I have a good two hitch, I intend to buy the new clam tow pro for all the above reasons.  I really like how easy it hooks up without having to line up hitch pins. As anyone can attest, losing or braking a hitch pin is a pain. I always carried a spare.
