Looking for a fishing buddy for a day! Hayward, WI
« on: Jan 15, 2009, 10:44 PM »
Hey guys, I know this is kind of a long shot, however I thought it would be pretty cool if my father and I (age 55/21) met up with another fellow iceshanty member(s) for a day or two.

We will be doing our annual ice-fishing trip, and will be up in Hayward, WI area for 7 days beginning on Feb 11th. The whole trip is paid for, and we are receiving some additional ice fishing equipment tomorrow (Reeds Sports).

We have ice fishing rods/reels, Jammin Jigs -jigs, proper clothing etc. (no tip-ups) and quite a bit of saltwater fishing experience, since both coasts are less than an hour away from our home in Orlando, FL. We don't have an auger or shanty at the moment, until we are permanent residents in a few years. I have been fishing Wisconsin/Minnesota waters for about 6 years now, and my father grew up in Wisconsin, some time ago. ;) He is used to the "old school" method of fishing, and I'm trying to introduce modern techniques and instruments to him, like a flasher, portable shanties etc.

Our fishing trips during the fall are fully guided trophy pike/northern trips, however I have become addicted to ice fishing and this has concluded our annual trip. This is who we go with when doing open water fishing, and have for 6 years; Joel Tinker.

A little about us:

My father and I are extremely laid back, and just looking for a good time ice fishing. We have a definite location that we fish, and we were wondering if anyone would like to take us out to explore some of the waters of Hayward, WI. It appears to be cold in Hayward right now, and I've been in sub-zero temp's before, and a shanty is absolutely not required. Despite being from "warmer" weather, we enjoy the extreme cold as well. I enjoy bundling up and hopping from hole to hole. ;D We try and fish all-day/every day while we're up there, no matter what the weather is.

We will be staying here, and fishing with the owner, mostly, but if possible, would like to fish on another lake. If you have the time, we can fish on the lake we're staying, for a day, and meet up with you on your favorite lake another day (within about a hours drive). We are more than willing to pay for bait, gas for the auger etc.

I have been in and out of the hospital for a year, and I'm "semi" disabled. Doctors say I am eligible for disability, and will be filing for, after our trip. I have two permanently pinched nerves in my lower back which make full-time employment very hard. Still, I see doctors/specialists often, which conflicts with a work/school schedule, so I have not been employed in some time. I was a student at a local college studying Business Administration, until my accident. I am looking forward to going back. I love the outdoors and remoteness of the area we're visiting/fishing. I am easily "self educated", if that makes sense, and a hobby of mine is strictly "researching" anything and everything, since I am obsessed with learning. I've found quite a few ice-fishing sites, read articles, watched videos on Youtube and had a little "first hand" experience as well. This will be my second year ice-fishing.

My father worked for the US post office for 20-some-odd years, until the back problems of his own caught up with him and forced him to retire early. He is currently on disability.

Our target fish:

Perch
Bluegill
Crappie

and wouldn't mind catching a small pike to try filleting (see link below), or, of course walleye.

Umm, I'm not sure what else to post. If there's anything else you'd like to know about us, feel free to ask. I would like to swap personal info via PM, so either PM me or post here for me to PM you. Again, it appears to be a long shot, but we know there are many ice fishermen in the area, and hope a few visit here. :) (and I hope this isn't against rules or in the wrong place)

I am about an hour south of Hayward, I am not sure what my wifes schedule is bu if she has one day of that weekend I think we would be intrested in going with you saturday or sunday. I know of a couple spots that would be within about a half hour of there that are good for bluegills and northern.  Although I don't use eletronics for finding the fish.
