5th Annual Northeast/Northcentral PA Get Together!
« on: Dec 11, 2010, 09:43 PM »
Well, it's that time again!  Time to start getting ready for our annual get together!  This years get together is being planned for Montour Preserve on Saturday, January 22nd, 2011.  Our previous get togethers have been on Beechwood, Lake Jean, Rose Valley and at Sayers Dam.  As anyone who has attended can attest, everyone has a real good time.  I would like to thank Marshrat for the opportunity to plan the event this year on my home lake.  I am also looking forward to seeing many familiar faces this year as well as meeting new members at this years get together.  If anyone else is interested in helping out with planning of the event or has any ideas of what you would like to see at the event, please contact me.  Montour Preserve should make a good location for the Get Together.  It has a pavilion near the launch are where we can set up for lunch, the parking area is plowed right to the edge of the lake for easy access and has plenty of parking available.  I will be in touch with the Preserve office and try to get some lake maps to pass out at the Get Together.

We should be good to go by then.  We are typically on the ice before that date.  Fingers crossed, mother nature will provide again this year!

Hey Geo, let me know what all we need, I'm sure I have something we can use. Fish fryer, table, stove, etc.I already had my wife mark her little schedule book, so we'll be there weather 'ice" permitting.

I have my stove, but it doesn't hurt to have two or three.  If we use the paviliion, we won't need tables to set up on.  If we want to stay out on the ice, a few tables wouldn't hurt.  I have two card tables I can bring, we used them last year along with a few others.  I think John brought the pop up tent thing last year.  That would be nice to have again as well.  I will probably do a pot of chili again this year.  This time I will bring the bigger pot!

We need some opinions here...Do we want to make use of the pavilion next to the lake or do we want to set up canopies out on the ice again like we did last year?

I have no opinion on the question asked. But I am very excited because that is the only weekend that I do not have prior plans between now and mid-march..........................see you there.
80% of Americans are unhappy with the direction our once great Country is heading. Yet 80% of Americans insist on buying blue jeans that were made in China, coffee filters that were made in Taiwan and anything else that was made anywhere but here........wonder if there might be a connection?

I think that will depend on the ice conditions then also as to how much we can group up because of the weight. all it should be fine by then. I think there is pros and cons for either.

That is why I picked the weekend I did.  I checked out what weekends you had tourneys, and took into consideration what other events were going on.  The 22nd just seemed like the only logical choice.

I like your thinking about the tipups John.  Montour is a good place to run tipups for walleyes.

Be glad to have you delfisher!  Definately the more the merrier!  Just because you don't call NE/NC PA home does not mean you can't be a part of the get together.

Hey Guys:

I just signed up to this site (hopped over from the myfishfinder site).

Just wanted to say hello and let you know that even though Im a newbie, I plan on attending your little shindig at Montour Preserve.

I live in White Haven,Pa, and even though Montour is only about 40 miles away I never fished the place before.

I have not ice fished in a few years, but I am in the process of getting all my gear out of the shed and getting ready to punch some holes.

I will keep an eye on this thread and also can bring a pot of stew or chili, and have a portable table and small gas stove that can be used if you decide to set up on the ice.

Looking forward to seeing some nice fish on this site, good reports and meeting a few of you at Montour.

p.s. - I wanted to start a thread about Francis E Walter Resovoir (I live just downstream of it next to the Lehigh River), but I cant start a thread. Is there a threshold of #posts before a new guy can start a thread?

Keep your feet on the ice.

If it fits in my schedule at the time, I'm in........ I know that sounds like bull but when you have 5 kids like I do and involved with both Boyscouts and Cubscouts like I am and your wife is a midwife who can get called at any time which puts me soley in charge of the works at home...... then it's hard to make the firm commitment saying "I'll be there for sure".  Does sound like fun.

Byron- you are one busy dude to have it all lined up for every weekend from now til  mid-March.  Cool to be that much in demand.  Don't forget to sit back every once in a while and let the world spin without you trying to twirl it- it's good for the soul to stand back on occasion to regather and take stock in yourself and others and the world.

Drake- Bean is a moderator on this site and the guy you should talk to about posting for new lakes.  There may actually be reports on this lake in the archives and it just needs to be activated with fresh posts for this season.  I'll PM you and Bean together to get this straightened out.

Happy Holidays All,
jjT
