Found this in the news;
Back-to-back winter storms brought snow and below freezing temperatures to Oklahoma this month, earning a literal upturned nose from the state’s alligators. Though the toothy reptiles are much less cold-hardy than other species, they can survive brief stints of icy conditions by extending the tips of their snouts above the ice layer.

Actually, they taste kind of like pork. My FIL lives in Florida and sent us  gator meat for xmas one time.

Those guys are a hoot! It's sort of like icefishing when they toss the treble, snag them, and handline them in. FFFFLLLAAAAGGGGG!!!! Well, we might not do the "choot 'em" part. 

I've eaten gator many times, I agree it tastes like chicken. It really is tasty. Send some reptiles over here, I'll filet 'em.

This is a true story.  You can google it in the Houston Chronicle archives.

Three-four years ago an old boy come down to East Texas from Michigan.  He shortly hooked up with a Texas woman and of an evening they went out for some barley pops.  They ended up at a beer joint in Anahuac, TX.  Anahuac consists of about 40 square feet of solid ground and 40 square miles of swamp. 

Naturally the beer joint had a boat dock.  The dock was festooned with warnig signs; do not enter the water, danger gators.  Not just one, but a bunch of signs...

So Our Hero, in an attempt to impress the lady and obviously thinking with the little head, jumped right off the end of the dock.

They shipped what was left of him back to Detroit in a matchbox...

Look up "fatal alligator attacks in the US"and a bunch are listed in Florida, couple Georgia and one in SC. Odd none listed in any other states. Maybe not recorded to cut down on negative press. They give a brief statement of event. Stay away from retention ponds in FL and walking dogs near them.
