the quiverstick with the fly reel seat is on the thornebros website now
I knew it wouldn't take long!  I really can't wait to use mine!  Been on the beach down here in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos all this past week.  Don't want to leave, but they also don't make any hard water down here!

Yep, the rod arrived last week, the reel should be here this week, pics will be on the way soon. The rod is awesome
Yeah, definitely post some pics of yours.  I'm still not sure about what backing route I'm going to go w/ mine.

when i did mine, i filled it with a butload of 4 lb mono i picked up at the big c. i have a spooler for my fly reels that i can run with a drill so it took about half hour. then i made the groove in the middle and covered it with electrical tape and then 50 yards of 1 lb ice line

I think on my next one i am just gonna tape all the holes in the spool and fill it with spray foam let it expand and hit it with spray paint after words......

Filling up the fly reel doesn't need to be complicated.  Just fill it up with fly line, fill it with about 8 or 10 lb mono line, then finally fill it with your 2 or 4 lb line you're going to fish with.

I added some hockey tape to the seat befor adding the reel

I purchased an Okuma Sierra fly reel, it is a 4/5 but is the perfect fit

I though I sould start off by trying fly line backing, and grabbed some cortland 12lb when I bought the reel

Put it all together and add some more hockey tape....

Sweet.  Looks good.  Your reel seat is solid cork.  Mine was solid cork on the handle, buy syncork for the seat.

mine appeared to be solid cork, but did not feel as soft/smooth as the rest of the handle

It feels pretty balanced though, doesn't it?  Dude, I wasn't sure when they first showed it to me, but once I held it, I feel in love! ;D  We'll have to compare notes once we get to actually use the thing!  C'mon cold!!!!

I bought a large spook of fly line backing for my tipups, it is quite inexpensive compared to some backing.

yeah i want to try to use a couple this year I like the theory of no line twist and and things like that but i want to find some that are real light weight and fair priced i guess and smaller size
I just bought a beauty of a flyreel off E Bay. Its called a Fishon Bear Cub.It is only 2.5 inches in diameter and 3/4 of an ich wide. Weighs a scant 3.4 ozs. It came with flor. Orange backing and can be reeled either right or left handed. The seller tuned it for light line for me also. The cost with the backing and shipping was about $35.Its all aluminum and comes in a neoprene reel case.

Hey guys I hate to dig up this tread as its over a year old. I just had a question for Icejunky and jimmygunns. How do you guys hold the rod with the reel seat? Do you hold the front of the cork or do you hold the reel in the palm of your hand?

Fly reels are the rage this year. Schooley's cheap. Black betty combo's 59.00. Gentz ice fly combo's around 39.00. Cabela's has a new one out for around 25.00. It's a fly reel combo.  The only thing bad about the crystal river fly reels from E- Bay are the small knob for the drag. For ice fishing get the large knob drags. Easilier  to adjust in cold weather with or without gloves. I bought about 6 last year off E- Bay.  Very small nice reels for about 10.00 each. I don't see them this year. However there still are a lot to choose from. Good Luck

Brainstorm here, could you fill alot of the spool just by wraping it up with tape to a point then backing then line? Could be heavy but a good way to fill em up fast

Before you rush out and buy a fly reel look at the new ones this year. they have a seat like a spinning reel so you can hold the rod easier. they come as a combo or just the reel.

I have seen guys using fly-reels for ice fishing on this site for the past couple of years and I also put one of my inexpensive fly reels on one of my rods last season.  I saw for the first time ice/fly combos on sale from Cabela's when I got my Ice Fishing Catalog today.

I played around with the 30 dollar one that frabill is selling this year. seems like a great real for the price. I do a lot of fly fishing and this little "fly reel" has  drag that is almost as good as my nice fly reels. Hope to get one and try it this season.
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

got a frabil straight line last year for christmas and picked up one of those inexpensive cahill #3's (they just dont have the oversized reel handle) and both worked the same IMHO, caught some very nice perch and gills in Oshkosh. picked up another black frabil reel this year. Never got after anything larger than perch or gills so no experience on bringing in a nice 'eye on them though.
