Here in metro Denver, ice thickness is so different from lake to lake or on small ponds. Bigger impoundments around are running 6-9"

I was fishing 3-4" on a small pond last night and with the 10-day forecast not showing much below freezing even at night; ice fishing on small ponds will be done for the season.

A much different story up in the high country. Most reservoirs are 20-24"
Selective harvest works!

right now on lake superior we have between 12-16 inches depending on where you go. I couldn't even give a guesstimate on an inland lake here now, all I know is that I don't wanna try drilling it with a hand auger.

Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I'll remember some of it. Involve me and I will have lifetime knowledge.

Where do you live that you have that much ice? How the heck do you drill a hole is that thick of ice?

Some times you are better off not to know....you may never get off the couch otherwise!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbQwKfnHPZc&feature=player_detailpage

The difference between an 8" hole and a 10" hole is.....a 10" hole will usually give you your boot back!

In the food chain of life...its not good to be referred to as: "a good eating size".
