I was fishing 3-4" on a small pond last night and with the 10-day forecast not showing much below freezing even at night; ice fishing on small ponds will be done for the season.

Lake Simcoe , main lake is 18 inches of clear ice yesterday. Add 10 to 20 inches of snow depending on where you are standing and thats deep enough for this year ! If the winter was another 6 or 8 weeks longer we may need an extension on the gas augers. LOL The snow has gotten deep up here this year. A snowmobile paradise.

Here in Montana the lake on the east side of the continental divide that we fish for trout is 6"- 13" thick. Fort Peck on the east side of the state where we're headed this weekend is 30"- 36". Ice is really variable this winter here.
-
only on ice that's thinner then 4'' after that i use my jiffy propane power auger
-
Here in nb canada its around 30 inches
-
my auger handle hit the ice. Finished it off with the spud..Worked out OK..Great time to invest in a 4"er. 6" is all I want to crank..
-
I'm assuming you are still using a hand augur? ;D
Not anymore. After first ice it's all 10" 3hp Jiffy ;D. Got the Jiffy as a Christmas present from my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) and the rest of the family some 10 or maybe even closer to 15 years ago now. Drilled by hand for many years (6 & 8 & 10" flytes) and even fab'd a extension for them. Hand drilling on your knees, with the extension and the offset starts brushing the surface of the ice just before you break through, we didn't move too much once we got set up... ;D.
-
I had to put my extension on last Sunday.
-
I was about 6" from bottoming out my jiffy model 75 today.
-
too thick !!! :woot: :woot:
-
Its getting deep around here. One lake had 18" and the weather is getting colder! -15* by Monday.

Too thick. Lol never thought I would say that.

Got new blades for my hand 6" lazer today. What a difference. 20" was getting tough for this old guy. New blades...priceless..
-
Two weeks ago in NJ I encountered 16 inches. I've heard reports of 18 inches. Most of it is about 10 to 12 inches of black ice and the rest refrozen snow. With the cold temps this week the ice will probably get thicker
I've been ice fishing in NJ since the early 70's and remember ice this thick way back when, but not in the past two decades. Normally we have 5 to 10 inches and we're usually done by mid to late Feb. Ice fishing into March is very rare in NJ. About four or five years ago we went into the third week of March and had foot thick ice at the peak of winter. Heck, two years ago we had no fishable ice all winter other than a few of the smaller, northernmost lakes and even then it was only a week or so of barely fishable ice.
This is an ice fishing season that will be remembered for sometime here. Ya gotta love those polar vortexes.
-
The lakes I've been fishing is anywhere from 40 to 48 and still gaining
-
getting near 30 inches, money well spent on the jiffy pro4 this year.
-
Pushing 40" now with 2-3ft of snow on top of that. It's been horrible conditions for driving. Really can't go out unless you have a plow or go where someone has already plowed a road.
-
I hit a lake here in NE PA last weekend. Prompton. Ice was about 24".
-
around here its getting to be around 20, an hour north somewhere just shy of 28
-
Lake Erie 21"
-

-
About 13" here in central PA. And that is a lake at a pretty high elevation.
-
14 inches northeast pa, we had cold temps but had a heavy snow cover which insulated the ice. 8 inches black clear Ice and the rest snow Ice.
-
Fished in Dunbarton, NH on Sunday and almost bottomed out the 6" hand auger.
Ice was well over 2 feet thick in this southern New Hampshire location.
The lakes region should be closing in on the 3 foot mark in a few areas, if not already.
The next question will be when will ice-out happen this year???
-
My Eskimo Shark barely made it through to water the other day, clean to the handles! Thought I was going to have to chip the rest of the way through!
-

42 inches of good solid ice here.
Slight correction ...
Yes, on this particular lake 42" thick where the ice had been windswept clear beside a permie, but on average about 36" of ice elsewhere in the same area with more than a foot of packed snow cover on top.

-
8-20 inches in NY depending on lake ....now 17 inches of snow on top
-
Still holding in there at 38" to 40" depending but the melted snow on top is making a lake on top of a lake. Should be interesting trying to get onto a lake this weekend.
-
2 and half feet of solid ice with 6 inches frozen slush in central Maine

-
Central MN is still well above 30", some lakes over 40". Lots of lakes still have snow on them, some are just slush or ice depending if it gets below freezing that day. I should be good for the rest of the month. I'm sure plenty will be out in april. I tried planking out once, I didn't feel safe at any point. If I can't walk out, I aint going out.
-
Still 32+ inches and the shoreline is still good. Some puddles on top but it's supposed to freeze up this weekend.
-
36 inches now ! (on huge Lake Simcoe, Ontario)

Pactola in west South Dakota. The crazy thing is it's still freezing the holes back hard.
-
Were still hanging in there at 20"+ but the shoreline have been taking a beating lately. The ice is really softening up and is honeycombed really good right now. Were supposed to get 5-10" of snow over the next day or two so with that water coming I am guessing were down to our last week maybe two tops.
-
hoping for 1 more Saturday morning
-
Fished Cass Lake, Winnie, and Leech Lake all in the past week here in Northern Minnesota. Average ice is 36 inches. Will fish for a few more weeks for sure. Until I can't get onto the ice sheet. I started on Red Lake on November 29. That makes 6 months of hardwater fishing for me this season. If it stays cool enough I might make it in May too.
-
I'm in the central-north part of MN. I spend a lot of time in Annandale, as well as Brainerd. Annandale had much thicker ice than other parts of the state. I measured 48" on one lake, and I'm sure it got over 50" before it started thawing. It is a really big, but shallow lake. I was fishing north of Brainerd on the whitefish chain recently, and the ice is still good. The snow is really insulating well. I think it was about 36" I too started on November 29th. I have all my stuff in Annandale for now, thats where I keep it for the summer. I hear the shores there are starting to get thin. I'm guessing ice out there in 3 more weeks, maybe 4 for Brainerd.
-
30+ still in south west wyo on some lakes others are open already.
-
Still 2' on the King.
-
Cadillac and Mitchell still have close to 3 feet of ice
-
My ice down here is real wet in fact good enough to float my boat. It was a fun winter though.
-
Four feet and holding on the big lakes. Unfortunately in my division the season is closed for everything but trout now. It's tough seeing all that ice...
-
Still over 2 feet in saranac lake and almost 2 feet on most of lake champlain
-
Gone gone gone!
-
Southeast NY gone its boating time
-
still over a foot where I last fished but wood and weeds on ice had ''burned'' their way inches deep into the ice and created rotten areas. also a honeycombed look showed strongly after our last 60 degree sunny day.
-
30 inches today. Started at 18° F. this morning at dawn. Mid 60s in the early afternoon.
⫸<{{{{{ ⦇°>

-
9 in the mile high city!
-
On Saturday it was 5 inches in upper Wayne County Pennsylvania but we got heavy rain on Sunday so there's definitely less. This week it's going to get a lot colder, lows in the low teens and highs in the mid twenties so there'll be a bunch of places that are fishable this weekend.
-
Hopefully a lot after these below zero temps had 3 to 8" this prior weekend.
-
3-5" in VT
-
Some lakes and ponds in Western North Dakota have 18 to 20 inches of good black ice. I have been driving on one lake for two weeks now pulling out my 8x17 Ice Castle with my 1/2ton Chevy Silverado crew cab.
-
Was 17" inches here this last weekend. Should be more but I think we already moved into spring lol staying up in the 30s, rain and all that nice wind !!! :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!:
-
this has been a weird season for ice so far. fished some ponds the other day that had 4 inches of grody ice, left after a couple hours cuz i was getting too nervous about safety. went to a big reservoir about a dozen miles away and fished on 11 inches of ice. usually it's the other way around...
-
I am afraid its going to be another one of those goofy years close to me. Got some 5 to 7 locally but not really building any more in the lower elevations.
-
Hitting a big 3,000 acre lake today near Hayward. I was out last Friday had about 5" with the cold we ave had the last few days I'm guessing 7" or 8" now. I will report back latter
