anyone know how to get a st croix spring boober without over paying for a rod

Correct... they sell the spring separately just about everywhere.

I think you need an 1/8 grommet from the hardware store and a 8mm single foot guide to wrap on. I cant seem to find the post back.

I will put the calipers on the shaft of one of those springs and tell you for sure.
