« on: Nov 29, 2008, 09:20 AM »
Does anyone Know any thing about the new flashers on the market other than vex or marcum.  Checked out the one with the digital center display and seemed better than any one Ive seen or used.  If anyone has used one let me Know.

are you talking about the Lowrance with the graph and flasher?  I have that one and I love it.  There is also that inline one from NatureVision.  It works, but it's not something I coulds stare at for hours a day.  Humminbird came out with one now that I have heard good thing about, but I have also heard that the screen can be hard to see in the sun or with polarized sun glasses on.

I am new to the flasher scene and I just bought a ICE 45 by Humminbird.
I wanted a Aqua Vu Showdown but Gander doesn't/won't carry it and I had 100 bucks worth of rewards certificates from their credit card that I wanted to use. Cabela's had them but they are 40 or 50 more this year but the free money dictated where I got it.

I wasn't crazy about putting it together since it was 399.99 but it was not bad at all. My Clam Guide was much harder and I think I paid 200 last thanksgiving for that. I had it together in like 15 minutes and most of that was looking for a screwdriver. I used my 10% off and free money so it cost 284 plus I get a free case with the mail in slip from Humminbird for 7.99.

So far I am impressed. Alot more flasher for the money. An FL 8 is 300 now, and this is 1/2 inch separation. Has back lighting.
The only thing that worried me is the battery life. I think the showdown was like 48hrs. correct me if I am wrong. because of the LCD and nothing to spin. But I have had mine on Simulator mode (all be it) but it has been doing that for 4.5 to 5 hrs now and it still says 90% battery.

Of course the true test will be on the ice but so far it look like I will be happy.

Later
Colt

I figured it would be the best bet because humminbird has been around the scene for a while but not in ice fishing. But still.

I will preface this by admitting that I am a MarCum guy...

What it all comes down to is what YOU like.  MarCum is putting on some MarCum Challanges this winter.  they will have the MarCum models working side by side with Vex, HBirds, etc.  Go to one of these and you can see the differences for yourself in a real ice enviroment.  I fish with guys that are Vex guys... I fish with guys that are MarCum guys... and I fish with guys that are Lowrance guys.  Each prefer their own units for their own reasons.  You just have to find what is right for you.  Whatever gives you more confidence will assure you more fish on the ice.

check eBay maybe you can find something cheap.  Marcum also sells reconditioned ones pretty reasonable.

I would'nt say better but I prefer it. All the brands of flashers are good units. I didn't really know if I liked me Humminbird until I got some hours on it and not i LOVE IT!
