I don't know there was a list posted on the state site and it had goldens as one of the baits that still could be used

Andrew, i thought you were not allowed to sell goldens. LBD says different.

Just to be clear, I didn't say native, catch your own goldens, I just said goldens.

Arkansas shiners = golden shiners

GOLDEN SHINER
Notemigonus crysoleucas

Other common names: Pond shiner, golden, Arkansas, méné jaune.

Identification: Body is deep and strongly compressed laterally.
Head and snout are pointed. Mouth is small and decidedly
upturned causing the chin to project ahead of mouth. Scales
are large. Midline of belly between pelvic and anal fins is a
fleshy, scaleless ridge or “keel.” Lateral line on sides with dark
pores dips conspicuously downward toward the pelvic fins,
rising again as it approaches the tail. Anal fin has a long base
(usually 11-14 rays). Coloration: Back is dark olive-green. Sides
on adult fish may vary from golden, brassy or silvery. Young
fish are silvery with a broad dark lateral band. A cultured
variety, called the Arkansas red, has silvery scales with a
pronounced pinkish overtone. Length: Average about 2-4
inches. Large individuals up to 8-10 inches.

Hey gang, not being familiar with the town names and locations, when I look at the bait shop listings, can anyone tell me the closest one to Ludlow VT?

Also, whats up with not being able to buy a 2008 liscense until 1/1/08! I cant imagine too many shops will be open 1/1/08 so how do you fish 1/1/08? Am I missing something?

I was considering heading up for new years to hit Echo but with the liscense fiasco and bait issues it's becoming more trouble than it's worth.

Locally back here in CT, which doesnt have all the restrictions you guys have, we had a pretty good start to the ice season but todays rain will hurt all but the smaller places in our North West hills. We have a gang ready to go for this Sunday weather pending. Good Pike, Walleye, Bass and panfish have been iced already so it looks like it's going to be a great season if we can keep the early ice! Then again, we still have guys out in boats too so it's not all bad!

Hope you guys keep your ice this weekend, have fun/stay safe!

I did a little more searching and came up with Spring Water Bait in Brattleboro, looks like a quick hop off the highway on the way up north. Anyone familiar with this shop?

Sam's Army Navy in b Bratt may be able to get you a bait shop list and if I'm not mistaken you can buy a license on line before the beginning of the year
