Title: Lake Champlain Ice
Post by: aslocs on Jan 17, 2020, 11:39 AM
Hi there I started this thread last year and it seemed to be a good one. Just use this thread to share the ice conditions on lake Champlain! In particular I was wondering about the ice conditions on keelers bay and at Georgia shore as I was hoping to get out tomorrow if anyone has any info!

Just got back in the door 5 minutes ago from checking the ice on Outer Malletts Bay. I found only about 2 inches of ice just 20 feet off shore. The good news is that with high winds last night most of the snow was swept off the ice and it is mostly bare now. The ice is clear and solid. Tonight will be very cold so I am hoping there will some fishing this weekend. According to the ice freezing chart/formula there could be another inch or two by tomorrow. Tonight's forecast has low temps below 0.
Hope this helps someone. Be safe out there.

Keelers is solid about half way out to Kellogg Island. Open water east of there all the way to Georgia shore and that's as of a day ago.

Eosdis satellite photo showed the inland sea locked up a couple days ago.  I went to check this morning- I spudded my way out 100' until my spud found water on one hit.

Almost there!

Singing Cedars about 5-6 inches.  Nothing bit.  The ice was singing like the cedars, though.
Has anyone been on the Inland Sea from the islands side?

Fished it Sunday.  There is 10" of ice with a layer of mush in the middle; it may not be that thick in the middle where the current is.  Did well for perch.  Got 2 pails of mediums with a few large in the mix.  It's loaded with pickerel this year but very few pike.  10 Pounds of Fillets was my 1/2 of the take.

I haven't been out on Mallets bay but I saw a string of cars driving off the ice 2 days ago. I fished the inland sea yesterday and there was a solid 10-12. I can't believe the ice would deteriorate in two days.

Not Malletts but there were tons of people on Keeler and the sand bar yesterday. I was in North Hero and there was probably 10-12" of ice

I fished cowbanks Saturday and had 12” ice about 1/3 was white ice on top, fished it again Monday after work same general areas and now 8-10” thick...65F, warm south wind and lots of sunshine did a number on it...I’m done, gearing getting stowed!

Still decent ice at the Inland Sea but with the rain and warm temps watering along the shore will start up.

Post by: Island_Viking on Mar 11, 2020, 02:38 PM
Lots of water along the shore just south of city bay. Ice is around 8 inches with lots of slush. Today may have hardened it up but its gonna get iffy after Friday's rain and wind.

went down by st. albans bay and georgia beach  ....ice is looking real black. My next time out will be in a row boat. See someone went thru at mills point on his atv.  Said they found him standing on his 4 wheeler 30 yards from shore. Glad he's ok . they say 4 wheelers float....but upside down   :)   A lot different then last years ice conditions. Stay Safe

Anyone in the st.albans area needing to scratch the fishing itch ....all open water around the bay dock , and surprising for this time of year the dock is above water.  You can catch about anything there this time of year. Looks like the ice will all be breaking up soon in the bay.

You could launch a boat?

No, there's no place there to launch a boat....just a nice spot to cast from the dock.
