Heat Hog?
« on: Sep 16, 2022, 09:23 AM »
Anyone have some reviews/experience with the Heat Hog heaters for ices fishing?  Interesting that it is smaller than a buddy with the same output, I like that it keeps 1lb tanks warm to use more of the propane, and the tilt feature would seem to be an upgrade.  Don't find much on them for reviews...

All I know is that they're assembled and put together right here in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. That's where their phone rings too,  for customer service.Don't know where their parts come from, but Pinnacle is a huge company. I don't know if I like the tanks inside the unit, especially when so many refill the 1 lb'ers
and can have leaks. Didn't notice that they have an O sensor on them either, not that I put much stock in those anyway. Guess time will tell!
Seems a few like it better than their Big Buddy heaters...(bottom of page reviews)

The price tag on the Heat Hogs are not attractive  at $119 for the 9000 btu and $159  for the 18000 btu..the Buddy heaters are battle tested and can be found for less money.

Kinda like a Chevy or a GMC truck....pay more for one that's basically the same truck.  ::)

Gladly pay more if they're less finicky. The reliability of a sunflower heater in a buddy heater style would be great.

I honestly have to say I've never had any issues with either of my two Buddy heaters....after 15 years of running. They don't look real great, but they sure have performed. Won't be using them too much this year with the 1 lb'ers at an insane $7.49 apiece.. :%$#!:

They were $9.87 for a two pack at Walmart here on Thurs. $19.99 for a four pack at Runnings here.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Same here at Walmart.....but they haven't had any in stock and said they can't get any.  ::) Home Deepo and Lowes are the ones with crazy prices. Sure glad I squirreled away five of 'em this Spring.

I’ll definitely buy one - if some one can tell me if the pilot light will stay lite in the wind.
Buddy heater goes out with the slightest breeze.

Radiant heaters of any brand don’t like wind, it’s not the way they are engineered. I had a sunflower almost burn down an old house I had when the door opened in big wind. Looked like a giant blow torch.

Mine doesn't work.  It took a week to get a response to multiple emails & on line chat. They will only se d you boards so you can fix it yourself.  They gave me 2 places to take it to get fixed but they had no idea if these places would actually do it.  They will not fix it themselves a d definitely won't replace it.  They got my $100 & don't care.

We lost power at our house over the weekend. My ice fishing gear is 300 miles away at the cabin, so I went to Menards and bought the big Heat Hog. Its pretty damn big and heavy. It runs on 1 1# cannister (or a 20# if you get the adaptors). Problem is, you go to both burners, you'll run through that 1#er in an hr.

Heated a 700 sqr ft living room and kitchen, no problem
