I hear they get perch in gtb at about 70 feet a lot.... Only issue being if they arent big they are still gonna die from coming up so far

Hey JD,. Fished Crystal Saturday with some friends and family.  No big trout, well how about just no trout, lol.  Caught a few whitefish on Saturday and talked with some other friends that were fishing in other places.  A couple of decent pike and no trout for them either.  Today was the same story, a couple whitefish and a small trout.

News flash, fished Green for Smelt.  3 bites in 4 hrs.  This is what my graph looked like for 3 of the 4 hrs, talk about frustration.

I would say yes for most of the lake.  I would stay away from the west end on my quad if I were out there today.  One of the guys I fish with went through checking ice last Thursday.  Shallow water on the west side is pretty good but deep water still had a ways to go for machines as of Friday in our opinion and I stayed away from there last weekend.  The guys I know that fished on the west end last weekend were on foot.  We lost one of the group in that area several years back when he went through with his sled.  The lake was making a lot of noise this weekend and there are some pressure heaves out there off Lobb and on the north shore by Herdsman.  We say 7+ " everywhere we stopped and we're on quads all weekend to be more mobile but didn't see a lot of machines out there yet.

Thought of trying crystal. Never been there! Fishing for perch. Any pointers? Where to park/launch how deep ? How far walk on foot? Or can bring snowmobile?

and on the north shore by Herdsman.

Any idea how the ice is in that area? Is that pressure crack bad enough to avoid or can you get around it?

I didn't check the ice in Herdsman just saw it as I drove past it.  It looks like it goes for a significant distance out toward the middle of the lake from what I saw.  I've seen worse but I would have avoided it if I had been fishing in that area.  I did cross a couple out deeper over by RR Point that were ok but they where not as big.

Probably not this week or weekend.  A few tournaments this weekend so I will be fishing a little south of Benzie.  I will probably be out there again next weekend or the following.  Good luck, it's been pretty quiet from our fishing group on reports.

Hey JD

Haven't fished Crystal in a few weeks but headed out in the morning.  Been pretty quiet on reports for trout and smelt both.  Hit Green tonight to see what was going on here and picked up a few smelt for tip up bait and sitting on 18" of ice.

Fished Crystal off the boat launch on the south side.  Depth was 20 - 25 ft. Lots of Perch but keepers were few and far between. Hitting on white spikes.  Other fisherman reported Lakers hitting Swedish pimples out deep.  Big weather coming Saturday and Sunday.  Ice depth was about 19 inches.

14" today off Lobb in 100+ fow.  Trucks and cars driving around saw 2 trucks drive from lobby to North Shore side of deep water.  Ice 1 nice laker got tired of the wind and false flags so I packed it in early.  Rain is really coming down and it will eat into the ice but if it gets cold again it should service.

Around 120-140fow seems to be doing pretty good for the guys I know on Whitefish.  Myself I can't get those buggers to hit anything I put down after them.
