What did you get some smoke from one of the fires.

You could see smoke from one of the Canadian fires clear down in the central lower peninsula of Michigan on satellite pictures the other day.

Yeah, wind switched out of the South and blew the smoke up my way. :(

Words of wisdom?
Take your time and if possible sled in your materials in the winter.
Flying in the materials gets spendy in a hurry.
Most importantly have fun. ;)

All the material will have to be hauled in 35 km from the main road by sleds in the winter when the lakes are frozen.  I already have one expandable material hauler, but will need to build/borrow something better in addition too.  Hauling stuff in by Otter or Norseman (cost wise) is out of the question. Plan on getting it all the material in this winter and start working on it whenever the frost goes out (hopefully by mid June).

Yes, like yours, the project will be fun.

I like your idea for the dock cribbing, it appears to be the frame for a water/chemical tote.

Yep, sure is.
There are two of them under the dock.
Lined with chain link fence to hold the rocks in.  ;)

That has to be quite a task to fill those 2 cribs with rock!! Do you plan to fill them to the top? And I imagine it is all locally sourced rock from around the cabin, right?

Yeah, I want to fll them to the top. It will make the dock more stable as the little poles will be supported much better.
Tons of rock on my beach on both sides of my dock.

Drifter - thank you for the updates.  Have been watching this thread for some time now.  You have made a lot of progress.  Love that last picture of the shore.  That is one beautiful view there.  That is a lot of large rock there.

Back out to the cabin this weekend.
Got the flashing at the bottom of my siding installed.
Siding starts to go on next weekend.

Even had time to build up my lower section of stairs.

Drifter may you be blessed with good weather during your month off from work so you can get the siding installed and other things done before the Winter weather hits your part of the NWT.

Back at 'er again this weekend.
Got the stairs almost done.
Ran out of sub-floor adhesive so still need to get the plywood done on the top flight.  ;D
I can now use them though.  :)

Move the kitchen back to it's temporary home.

Got my starter strips cut and sealed so I can get to work on the siding when vacay begins Friday after work.

Spent 2 days burning off cuts and skids too.
The site is starting to look pretty clean now.
Nice that we've had a bunch of rain so I don't have to worry about burning down the forest this year.

Day one of my vacation is in the books.
Started on the siding and am pretty happy with how it looks so far.

Noticed I hadn't taken a pic from the inside since the windows were installed so I fixed that up.

Haven't got a whole lot done since my last post as it's been raining since Sunday.  >:(
Got a bit done outside on Sunday but nothing more until yesterday when it was just cold and cloudy.   ::)
Woke up this morning to freezing temps and finally SUN!!!!   :)
Managed to get some inside work done on the rain days and I got some scaffolding planks built out on the covered deck as well.
Yesterday the scaffolding went up and I framed in the gable end of the porch roof.
Then I cut up some of my sweet Western Red Cedar 1X6 T&G that is going to be my soffit.
Oiled it up last night so it could be installed today.
Had to move it from upstairs to a sunny spot on the main floor as it didn't dry over night.
Might have been the temps.   ::)

Ran into town for supplies while it was drying and got it put up when I got back to the lake.
Had all my heaters going last night until bed time. A 60,000 btu propane salamander and my Buddy heater.
It was still chilly. I checked the temp in town and it said 2*C. I waited until 10 before heading out in the boat.
Weather channel said 5*C in Yellowknife. Wasn't that warm here. Needed more than shorts and sandals and a long sleeve tee that I had on.
Truck outside temp said 1*C at 10:30 this morning. My toes were a tad cool. But I got to warm them up in the lake while loading the boat.
Water temp had dropped from 60.5*F to 52.1*F since last Friday.
Grabbed the boots when I was at the house.   ;)

Supposed to be nice for the next week so hopefully I'll get a bunch more finished.   ;D
