Haven't been overly ambitious at the cabin today.
Too dang hot!!! Got the last ledger board up and the first 4x4 post and end rim board. Also got the last post saddle cemented in place.

Then it was time to hightail it inside. Snoozed for 4 1/2 hours.

Will go out and do some work when the sun starts to drop behind the trees.

Glad to see you are working smart Drifter. Working by yourself you do not need to suffer from Heat Stroke or Heat Exhaustion.  Do you ever get temperatures above ninety degrees F in the Yellow Knife area ? It is forecast to be the hottest day of the Summer to date here in South Eastern New York (U.S.A) high of 95 F .
Take care of yourself and thank you for all of the build pictures.

Drifter You amaze me, as a retired carpenter, at what you have accomplished all by your self. I worked alone most of the time doing smaller jobs but never tried anything to the magnitude of what you have taken on. It is surprising what a person can rig up to get that third hand you need at times.

Those blue tarps had me concerned as they do not keep water out for very long when exposed to the sun.

I passed through Sudbury, Ontario in 1966 when the bank thermometer read 90*. Those poor people were really suffering. We have had way to many 90* days here in Michigan this summer already with a couple of months today

The record high for Yellowknife is 90.5 degrees and record humidex is 95.7 degrees..
The record low is -60.2 and the record windchill is -80.2 degrees.

The good news is today is the last day of the heat wave.
They are calling for the temp to start dropping tomorrow and by mid week highs will be in the 50's!!!!!!

Little more productive day today. Still as hot as yesterday but there's a good wind and some clouds to knock down the killer rays.

Drifter/Dave thank you for the weather information on Yellow Knife. The deck platform looks good, glad the temperatures will be more favorable for outside work in the coming days.

Starting to look like some kind of deck thing.  ;)

We also have a large wildfire burning about 25 miles away to the SE.
It started Thursday evening and has grown to 6,500 acres in a day.
Don't know how much it's grown today.  :(

The deck is coming together nicely Drifter.  I think you will be seeing the water bomber planes soon as they try to contain and put out the forest fire. Things must be dry and windy up your way   6,500 acres is a large area to be burned in one day.

Nice deck Dave, it's a good thing that the lake is between you and the fire, plus the wind looks to be taking
              it away from you!

Yep, wind was pushing it SE.
Overcast with little wind today so hopefully they can make progress on it.
From what I heard 2 values @ risk were lost so far.  :'(

UPDATE:
After yesterdays heavy, gusty winds the fire is now 15706 acres in size.

Drifter hope the winds have abated so the fire fighters can gain some ground in their fight.

Looking good thanks for sharing.

As a painter for over 30 years. I would use an oil based product to finish the deck. Latex products just don't hold up well. Especially where it gets warm to hot during the day and chilly wet at night. Have finished many decks over the years. Just my 2 cents.

A good start would be to give it a liberal oat of boiled linseed oil. Having linseed oil in it was one of the reasons that the original Olympic stains were so good.

Polyurethane has no business out side as it will crack with the expansion and contraction of wood. Real Spar varnish is the way to go. Not the  poly/spar.
