Coming along nicely Drifter...thanks for the pictures!!
Was wondering if you are going to use some type solar panels at some point?

Yup, I have a set already to use with an interim system while I save the $$$ for my real system.
I have about 250 watts of panels I'll be hooking up to a pair of deep cycles to power some things until that time.

Eventually I'll have about 1,500 watts of panels hooked to an Outback Flexpower ONE Power Center and to a bank of Surette S-550 batteries.
It will supply up to 35 amps @ 120 Volts AC plus 24 Volts DC for my ceiling fan. With a DC/DC converter I will also be able to run my 12 Volt DC stuff such as my bear fence that will keep the critters out. I have a 4 KW generator that ties into the system for use in the winter months when light levels are low. Cost of the system will be about $8K.

Have my WiFi hotspot on my cell phone turned on and have my puter connected.   ;D
Up @ my cabin I have awesome service, but if I go down to the dock I got nuthin'. The hill blocks the signal.
T'was a good idea building on top of the rock. ;)

Got some rain this evening.
Real hard rain with hail!!!! We don't get that too often in these parts.
The lake looked a little sporty!!!
I figure the wids were gusting 60-70 as the storm rolled in.

Video of the torrential rain and hail.

It seems my roof tarps were not up to the task.
Guess I'll have to do something about that this week. ;)

They're still there, they just don't stop water very well anymore.

Ran in to town today for supplies and when I came back the water bombers were working on a lightning caused fire from last nights storm.
The fire was 1.5-2 miles NE of my place. But there is a hydro dam between me and the fire so they tend to work pretty hard and fast on fires around me. ;)

Don't know if this will work but I took video of the water bombers.
They had a spotter plane working with them as well as a couple of choppers (may be bringing in ground crews).
I also changed the privacy settings on last nights video so hopefully it works too.

They sure do. They were working the fire until after 10 last night.
There were the two bombers, a spotter plane and a chopper or two that were around.
T'was pretty loud when they came to reload every few minutes.

I was worried about the blue tarps holding up as the ones we get down here do not keep water out very long. I get a kick out of people covering their toons for the winter with them and finding they did not hold the water out. I bought a heavy silver one for my toon that has lasted for years.

Thanks for the video. The people that fight wild fires both from the air and on the ground deserve a lot of respect. When my brother was flying Sikorsky crane helos for the Army out of Fairbanks, one of the other pilots hauled a dozer to a fire setting a lift record for the helo. When they got the dozer to the fire it would not run. It got burnt up by the fire. The next day my brother broke the other pilots record as the only other dozer was bigger than the one the day before. He hauled
that one running.

When my brother got stationed in Fairbanks he hated private pilots because of the stupid ones that he had to pick up their bodies out of the mountains in VA. That all changed when he got to AK and saw how the bush pilots operated. It was especially appreciated when his son went missing on his snow mobile. It was a bush pilot that found his body on a power line in the bush as they all went looking.

Nothing interesting today.
No smoke from the fire area which is good.
Didn't get much sleep last night.
Not because of the fire but it was too dang hot!!!
Only cabin work today was to drill a bunch of 1" holes in 4 billion year old granite to anchor the deck and the out house/generator shack.
Then I had to run into town to return the rotary hammer.
Got back and crashed on the couch for a few hours!!!   ;D

Got most of the loft sub-floor installed. Loft window is ready to be installed this weekend.
Got the saddles for the deck posts cemented in place. Also set up and installed the saddles for the combination out/generator house.
Got my window buddy coming to help install most of the windows this weekend. The big ones will have to wait a couple of weeks until our third hand is available. Going to have to bring in some scaffolding on the next trip out to get all set for the big day when it comes.

EXACTLY!!!!
I figure that winter time is when the generator will get used the most so may as well use the heat it generates to warm the crapper up!!!   ;D

Things are slowly coming along.

Here's a better shot of the loft.

I also finished the final 4 window openings today.
Tomorrow they get windows in them. Along with 3 other holes in the cabin.
The final 4 have to wait until my extra help is back from vacation.

Monday is town day to resupply and then it's onto the deck and porch roof so I can order up my roofing.

Installed some sheathing under the stairs and beside the basement doorway today. Also cut down the door frames to the correct size now that I have the doors out here. Gave them a coat of paint as well. Got 2 out of 3 deck ledger boards installed as well as the flashing behind them. Too hot out today though. Next couple of days are supposed to be worse.
