Marmish Rods

I bought 2 Marmish Rods at the St Paul Ice Show, What Lb test fishing line would you guys recommend ?

Would you use Mono or a no stretch braid?

I have 2 as well....one I spooled with 2 pound Berkely Fireline micro ice fused for perch and small fish. the nice thing is that it can handle the sharp edges of the ice, con is that it does fray and you need to trim it a  lot. you can get it in one pound test even.

I put on a different brand of ice line on the other spool, 4 pound mono, it breaks all the time.

ps you definitely want low memory line with marmish, as the hooks are so light, and the line can go straight down instead of with coils....i did that first time and respooled it with different line.

yes its a little different, I wait until the spring bobber bends quite far then pull straight up ( holding the rod vertical, pull up quickly about 5-6 inches) or you can use your fingers to set too. bonus if you can see the fish take the lure into their mouth.

are they that good? i never used one and i just kinda started looking at them. Ive been fishing whitefish quite a bit and hear good things about them.

I bought a couple at the St. Paul ice show.

I really like the spring bobber on these, but I like to play the fish also.

I'm thinking of buying a couple of the spring bobbers and putting them on a regular fishing pole.

well i kinda made one monday and took it out today. Caught 1 pike, 2 bullheads, 1 jumbo perch, and something else that straighten my hook right out.

I'm using these rods for now, but I'm gonna buy better for next season. I've added bite indikators for both of rods:

I prefer mono line, 'cause it's stretchy. My rods have UNYL 0,16mm mono line.

Welcome to the Shanty Olli ! I got the same design of rod, but from a Swedish company and it is a realy blast with the Yellow Perch and Blue Gills ! I use the 5lb Power Pro braid with Yozuri pink florocarbon leader and it works great ! I couldn't resist trying it and the new Swedish Pro pimples when I first got them. so I improvised !

8 or 12 ounce,1or 1.5 lb flouro esso or micron. seems appropriate if your truly down sizing to increase your bite percentage. Hopefully the catch percentage remains the same.

I have one of mine rigged with 2lb (asso Line) and an other rigged with 3lb Nothland line. I would not get much higher then that

I havent tried the marmish rods but when I am fishing for whitefish I use four pound berkly vanish and they could never see it, it dissapears as soon as it hits the water and it is very strong with low memory. Awesome line.

what are some of your favorite jigs for whities? I recently bought a marmish rod and tried for whities with it. Lost one but i am hooked on these rods and hoping on catching one with it this year. I have the canoe 1 and i tip it with one waxie. Im using 4 lb flouro.

These truly are amazing little rigs.  I have two and love them....   They handle extremely light tackle and you see every little bite....  I just like them because they are so small and so senstive.  Some guys will hand bomb the line but when you get into a solid fish u can unlock the reel and let it take line.  The drag is as simpple as pinching the sides of the spool to cause friction...

Get one!!! You'll be glad you did!!!
