Hey guys/gals, trying to downsize my gear setup, looking at getting a collapsible shovel to take with me instead of the full size. What do you guys use/recommend or should I stick with the full size one? (Northern Maine Area)

Your local may have one ...check automotive ..and garden

I've seen those, but they are quite flimsy. I looked at reviews of similar shovels on amazon and they all break at the neck

Have had good luck with this shovel doesn’t collapse but is durable.

I carry a mini plastic snow shovel. Certainly wouldn't use it to bust up ice but scooping snow and slush it works great. Not collapsible but only about 2 1/2 feet long. Fits in the bottom of sled nicely.

Same here, I use a little kid's plastic snow shovel when there's snow on top the ice. It can't weigh a pound, and it makes short work of clearing a spot. Cost less than $5 at Walmart.

I have a Subzero (looks identical to the Clam) and a Lifeline (doesn't collapse as small as the Subzero). The Subzero is designed so you can turn the handle and actually use it like a trenching tool. They are both made of aluminum with plastic handles. I've had them for about 4 years. The Subzero is in my one man and the Lifeline is in my two man. They have both held up well. Great for shoveling snow and have survived some minor ice chipping but I try not to go overboard because I think you could really bend them up if you start hammering away. I found them both on after season sales so got them extremely cheap. Like them both and would recommend them both, although I think the Lifeline seems a little bit sturdier then the Subzero.

I have a small 1 made by Garnat , kids shovel with a solid poly handle I’ve had for years , tough as nails ,think I paid $5 , now they are like 20

Toddler Shovel
It’s rugged as heck and fits in the sled easily.
Works great for banking up the house.
Can’t beat it at $9.99

Field and Stream/Dicks Sporting goods in Latham, NY. They have an Online Website. It’s a beast of a little shovel and doesn’t hardly weigh anything.

Wish I could find those somewhere nearby, I had an old red one like that which was at the house when we moved in, but it broke so we tossed it, nowhere nearby sells one similar.

I use an aluminum shovel that that has a collapsible and removable handle.
It's made for people that ride snowmobile's in the backcountry and it's quite durable.
I don't know what they cost nowadays I've had mine for several years and paid about 30 bucks for it at a snowmobile shop.
I also have a backpack that it's made to fit on to the outside of for when I'm snowmobiling for fun.
I wouldn't use it for chipping ice but for shoveling out snow and slush from where you want to put your ice shanny or banking snow around the outside it works perfect.

I have the Walmart version of this Clam shovel. Works great and I like how it telescopes out and back into a compact size.

yea, i'm thinking not overly durable, was contemplating something like this instead, easy enough to attach to snowmobile or sled, and more durable then the cheap aluminum ones.

Got one like that and an army version with the regular shovel head. Real metal and works when you need it.
