Title: Panhandle Crappie
Post by: A-Bomb on Jan 06, 2010, 09:50 AM
I have been mainly fishing for perch but have always wondered why I cannot catch a crappie through the ice. I know them very well in the spring and summer and just rail them, but under the ice has got me confused. I did catch one this last weekend on Avondale, but I think that was a fluke since that was the only one. Anyone care to share some secretes? Thanks!

If you have been fishing for perch I'm guessing that you are fishing primarily on the bottom or somewhere near the bottom but crappie are usually suspended and especially so in the winter time.  If you have a flasher or fish finder it would probably be very helpful to see what depth they are hanging out and fish above them a little bit as crappie usually feed upwards.  Just a thought or at least something to consider when you go after them again.

I'd offer the same advice exactly.
