Help on lake george
« on: Mar 03, 2021, 05:25 PM »

Hello, my dad is taking me to lake George. We live in Connecticut and are coming here for the first time considering there is no ice left in Connecticut. He says that he is going to put me on the fish but I am not so sure😂. We have a flasher and underwater camera. In the images I attached is the general area of where we will be staying and we do not have a quad or Anything like that.
It would be amazing if I could get some tips and tricks. I am only 13 and have not caught a lake trout yet. So hopefully a lake trout and secondary would be a pike. Would love any feedback. 👍

For lake trout, try to get out at least 40 feet deep. If you are using tip-ups, set your bait just off the bottom of the lake. For jigging, use a white swedish pimple tipped with a piece of minnow. jig it hard by whipping it up off the bottom. good luck.

Trust your Dad.  He's bringing you to a lake you won't soon forget.  In the area you showed you'll want to safely try to fish near where the smelt are staging.  They will be setting up near any creek/stream mouths.  If I were you and your dad I'd set traps for salmon and jig for perch.  The lakers will be all over the lake from 5-10ft to 80 or more.  That area isn't the best for numbers of lakers out deep but you can catch decent numbers incidentally while perch fishing.  Read the BS thread....while there is some BS there's a ton you can learn too.  Ice should be good for you and your dad.  Have a great trip.

Plenty of ice in CT still 15-20in on some lakes right now. Good luck this weekend I'll be on the lake this weekend also. Listen to Lowaccord his advice will produce fish for you. Ice conditions will be great for walking. Bring a spud bar and be careful around pressure ridges and bubblers
Go big or go home

If you see a mark moving fast towards your bait on the flasher, keep reeling away from it until it bites.  They are a blast.  Hope you catch some and have a great trip.  Lake George is a magical place!

To ensure lakers will chase make sure you are not looking at the flasher. For example grab a chip from the bag, tie on jig to another pole, check email or text or just flat out dont pay attention. Guarentee to have mark at your jig when you look at screen just in time to miss it
Hope this helps lol.

I think your dad has a decent plan. That area is slow during the middle of the season. It can have some hot days at early ice and late ice. You've got piles of smelt in that area starting to ball up and prepare to move up those 3 streams. The lake trout know this and follow. If you're running tipups. Stagger your depths. If 1 gets hit. Make sure you're quick to change the others.
My kid is a ninja burping trout. If you get a fish you'd like to harvest. Burp any smelt you can out of it and lay it in the mud under a tipup. If you happen to jig up any live ones. Even better. But they absolutely will scarf a half digest smelt out of the mud and weeds.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.
