I've never had a problem with talking, even in super shallow water. Walking around with cleats, dropping things on the ice or drilling holes can definitely spook them. Just talking? Doubt it.

When you fish on a really cold day, the expanding ice pops constantly and sometimes loudly. The fish have to get used to that.

Plus, bogtrotter uses a spud to cut his holes, and he never has trouble catching fish.

I don't think any noise that's above the ice will affect the fish. Anything that makes noise contacting the ice could definitely spook the fish.

Can depend on the day and fish species. Most panfish don't seem to care though. I've had the radio blasting with a bunch of drunk buddies yelling in a tent all pulling up fish
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

Yesterday every time we got a flag and started crunching our way through the snow to check it we would end up getting a second flag. This happened at least 10 times throughout the day. We were thinking the noise might have a triggered a "take the food and run" response from the fish who may have been inspecting the baits. We were also fairly loud throughout the day splitting up wood for the solo stove and had music playing non stop. Didn't stop us from going through 3 dozen shiners in about 5-6 hours.

I play music as well in the shanty, at a low tone, I don't think noise matters much, in some cases it could though ???

I have better days fishing with release when he’s talking to himself…. The fish can’t take that chatter from him either!!😜

This has always got them biting for me!!!

[ Invalid YouTube link ]

With the exception of walleye where I seem to do better quiet and still, other species seem to like the noise.  Many times, I have found that drilling a new hole has attracted fish, especially with the trout species.  Many times, I have hooked a lake trout right in the new hole.
