I snowshoed across the bay from the park out to the crappie water in the Eastern half. Yesterday's wind packed the top snow tight enough to stay out of the slush but without them it's wet feet. The ice is variable; some spots no more than two layers of frozen slush. A couple of good pokes and I was through both. Where I fished I had 13" of layered ice with a decent bottom. There were snowmobiles running their trail from the park to the East side with no trouble but I would not put a 4wheeler out there yet. Didn't find any crappie out there either. Caught a few undersized Pike by the pilings on the way back. If you go, avoid the newly frozen slush areas and use the trail as much as possible.
