this is why i did not go this weekend. i will wait another week. i also did not waste $100.00 in gas to go up north looking for a place to walk on 1"-2" of ice with 15" of snow for a  dink perch. maybe next weekend it will be better ::) ::) ;D

Safest way to fish early ice on the pond, bring cheifcatchem, give him a backpack with a bag of concrete & a spud bar.  Send him first, just tie a rope around his neck so you can yank him out if he goes in.
afterall he's got the new suit.

Bring an innertube to sit on... You'll be all set... I'm gonna run down today and spud it a little bit to see where its at. Probably not good... Just sucks to think that if this storm never came we might all be out there right now  >:(

I wasn't, but this morning I'm gonna be...

Was out far enough where I could set tip ups if I chose to with relative safety.

Ice was spider cracking and flexing but I was jumping up and down and the ice didn't give way.

Just went to the wigwam for an ice check.... Good and bad report: (I spudded out about 30 yards from the launch)

Good: The wind is blowing like a ***** and the snow is moving out quickly...

Bad: There is about 3-4" of slush on top of 2.5 - 3" of crap ice (pure white didn't see any clear). Every hole I spudded out sent water rushing up through the hole. Spud bar went through in 3-4 whacks. I'm new to gauging ice by this method. Maybe some vets could fill me in on how many hits = safe ice. There was a shanty out about 75 yards and I can't imagine the ice was any better there. Could be but I wasn't about to spud out that far. I hope they get off safely... Slush was very loose at 9:45 when I was out. Depth at end of dock was about 1.5 - 2' = LOW!!! Really wish what base we had would have melted off before the snow. Now we'll prolly have 7-8" inches of whiteness to deal with...

COJONES!!!

I apologize if you are the one in the picture... I just couldn't believe my eyes  ??? I hope this helps... I am no expert...

Please update ice conditions if you will... Looking for a New Years day spot... (if the pond is inaccessible in two days) < fingers crossed

I loved sandy pond,  i can remember fishing into April on the ice up there,  ex was pullling up mud puppies and bullies along with a pike here and there.  Stayed at the wigwam once not sure of they ever gave the motel private bathrooms or not its been a long time since i been there at least 7 years.
