Northern Belly Contents

While cleaning a large Northern I found a crumpled up brown paper towel with a bandaid wrapper in it.  Guess they will eat anything,  any other weird things out there??

I've opened up Brown Trout with rubber worms in there bellies, and had one just this year, a rainbow, spit out about a 3 inch rubber worm.  Talked to a guy this summer that was fishing for togue and when he was cleaning them out he found cigarette butts in there belly.  Fish will eat anything.

Just 4 days ago cleaned a 33 inch pike. Had 4 bluegill, two chubs, a shiner, and a 4/0 Gamagastu hook in its stomach. Still wanted our 8 inch pike shiner on the tipup too.

I caught a 24" northern a couple years back, and when I got him in, there was a tail sticking out of his mouth. I cleaned the 24" pike and measured the other half digested pike at 10"!

This was not while ice fishing, but while open water fishing.  Me and my dad were fishing a bass tourney when we saw a pike floating belly up......When we got up to it, there was a 12" redear sticking out of it's mouth!  The stupid pike had litterally bitten off more than he could chew and choked.  They truly are water wolves.

Iv'e caught perch many times that have rubber worms or pieces of thein their stomach. So
I guess it is not a good idea to throw the worms or pieces of them in the water. I guess they
will eat anything that looks edible.

Last Summer my wife caught an 18" Mackinaw that had a tail sticking out of its mouth.  Its meal prior to the lure it tried to consume was a 14" Pike minnow....

A few years ago while shore fishing I lost a 4" rubber shad to a pike.
Two hours later my partern caught a pike the same size as I lost, they kept it and found my rubber shad in it's stomach.
I put it back on and caught a few more fish. ;D

A buddy of mine said that he saw 2 pike the same length thrashing around in the shallows where he was shore fishing.
He went to check out the action and found that one pike's head was completely in the other fish's mouth, the recurved teeth of the first pike prevented the second pike from backing out.
He tried to reach them from shore but could not, they were both found dead later that day.

one of the pike books that i read said that they will try to eat anything that they can get into their mouths. even said that farmers in germany have watched livestock run backwards from rivers with a pike hanging from its nose...that would be something to see.

gutted a 4.25lb rainbow with seven hooks in it's gut, also once caught a bass that was attached to a stringer, once caught a catfish with a rifle slug in it's stomach, and another rainbow with it's gut full to bursting with snails.

That's crazy.  I've heard of pike eating waterfowl, but I figured it would be a bigger pike eating a smaller duck.  They will eat anything...

Wow a duck and a muskrat is one big meal, I wonder how long they would take to digest?  :-\

On my last ice fishing trip I caught a pike with a lead head jig and snap swivel in it's stomach.

Not as good as the duck!!  Criminey!  Is nothing is safe??  In this pic: Eater was about 5lbs, Eatee about 1-2.  Good thing they don't get much bigger, might be a bit scary out there  :D
