Disadvantages of HDPE
Sensitive to thick sections in your part. It may have voids, bubbles or sink. Poor dimensional accuracy. Low mechanical and thermal properties. Price is low to very low.
High thermal expansion
Poor weathering resistance
Subject to stress cracking
Difficult to bond
Flammable
Poor temperature capability
Low strength/stiffness

Poor temperature capability            (used it once at -30 still worked)
Low strength/stiffness                  (seems pretty rugged!)

when ya get up here to moosehead I'm sure you'll change your mind!  the engineering they put to this takes all the disadvantages you listed to make a great product  also when ya get here  Ill race ya with mine from a cold start! SO YA CAN SEE THIS CRIPPLED UP GUY beat yours!  lol

Hazzy, I found that on the net, I was just waiting for an answer from you on it. I am hoping to buy an Icegator, because my auger is way to heavy and I can't afford to hurt my shoulder again. I have been out of work for 5 weeks now and going to be out at least another month. My auger is an Eskimo 3hp 10". Don't need that big auger and I did step in a hole on 2 different times. It's fast and strong, and a pain to lug out on the ice.

pikeking, i love my icegator , but i got to be honest here , if you are looking at a new auger because you want something light then the gator may not be the auger for you, unless you are using the new model that doesnt have a battery and connects to your wheeler or snowmobile. i put the icegator with 2 batteries on board , between a 2 and 3 hp gas auger weight wise

The claim is that the new "Competitor" model weighs 15lbs.

sounds about right  eliminate the batteries and thats about the weight of the original  but I like mine with the 9ah batteries

True,but you cant tell the weight when its being pulled around in a jet sled Plus it cuts through ice like warm butter.
