Cold winter predicted.
« on: Oct 27, 2016, 01:31 PM »
"Winter 2016-17 may bring colder-than-average temperatures to the East early on, but this winter may end up warmer than average overall, according to an outlook released by The Weather Company, an IBM Business.

A weak La Niņa is expected to develop, which would result in colder temperatures in the East and warmer temperatures in the West, which flips the pattern of the last several months, said Dr. Todd Crawford, chief meteorologist with The Weather Company."

It was in the low 30's here in Concord I'm liking what's going on so far. Agree with Roccus on the acorns too. It's got to be better than last year.

The size of the acorns tells me it's going to be a hard winter

Never seen Winnisquam as low as yesterday. Crazy.

I'd like to hear the logic or 'science' behind the acorn hypothesis, if someone wouldn't mind sharing. I just haven't heard that one before, explain? The extended reports I am seeing seem to be calling for a cold one though.

::)  Ok! Now that acorns are out of the running?   How about woolly bears?   My guess is that this winter will pretty much be just like last season,   Maybe a couple of degrees colder.   I'm prepared to walk onto  small bodies of water just before  Christmas.

Funny you say that. I haven't been cross referencing temps against last year, partly because I don't want to acknowledge a repeat, but if forced to guess I would say we're just a couple degrees lower. Really messed up the deer hunting in early November last year. We all know it went on to mess up ice-fish from there. Too early to tell or make guesses.
