O.G is right..spikes stay  alive a lot longer than waxworms and the smaller profile catches finicky pressured panfish.however the red ones die faster than the plain white ones.probably because of the dye used to color them.jmo

I have ordered a mixed bag of red and white spikes from Vados bait (Minneapolis area, MN) online for the past several years. As long as you don't freeze them, I've found the reds and whites have about the same lifespan and are very effective panfish bait.

I live near Omaha, but haven't been able to find red spikes around here. You might call Wolf Tackle (Council Bluffs, IA) - they would be my best guess if anyone was to have them, but I haven't called.

I usually put my order in at Vados at first ice, while I'm fishing with waxworms or whatever the pet shop has for sale in the little ketchup cups. Order takes about 2 days to arrive as long as you put it in before Wednesday of any given week.

Hey there!

I just made my yearly order of spikes and some waxies for a buddy. I always get my stuff from Knutsons Live Bait ( http://knutsonlivebait.com/ )

Good price and you can buy a lot at one time and then just keep them alive in the fridge till ice season is over.

Good luck, and hopeuflly we all get on this ice SOON!
Thanks,

Waiting for my order from Knutson. I am thinking the temps may let us out on the ice maybe by Sunday?

I don't know. I love the weather forecast for building ice but I think for our area we still may need next week as well. I am sure there will be some areas this Saturday/Sunday with "safe" ice, but I think it's going to be sketchy yet till middle of the next week?
Thanks,

Also red spikes don’t live as long as white I think because of the dye

The last couple of years I have been able to get the red spikes at Scheels. I haven’t looked for them yet this year.
