Beer,  a Ritz cracker with a dab of Limburger cheese and a piece of pickled herring on top!  A good warm up consists of hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps.  Also bring along the goodies to make a braunschweigert sandwhich, or a smoked turkey sandwich. Some of the best is bringing along home made soups; Bean, pea, chili, or beef stew never tasted better than on the ice.  And if all else fails...Pizza!!  To top it all off...some of the wifes home made chocolate cake (no box mix junk here).  Of course the list is endless, but those are some of our favorites. :'(

Take along coleman stove and make buttermilk or whole wheat pancakes, eggs and sausages for breakfast. Make super greasy pretty much raw in the middle burgers along with baked beans for lunch. Aways make home made whole wheat chocolate chip cookies to take for snacks with tea. We then belch and fart all the way home to the wives and do it all over again next weekend. It is great to be easily enterrained.  We do make Apache corn on occasion or ham and eggs with american fries to. :)
Good thing about prisons- they reduce the potential number of fisherman on the ice!

       FISHBONES ICESHANTY-CAFE WEEKEND MENU

BREAKFAST: bacon, kielbasa, homefries w/onions,and fried eggs, pancakes(in season),O.J. coffee or "The Bone Warmer".

LUNCH: Chicken Broccoli alfredo,or jambalya,or keilbasa and sasauges w/peppers and onions and sause, all served on precooked pasta,or its"HOT BBQ"

DINNER: GO HOME AND EAT ,THIS AINT NO SOUP KITCHEN

thanks to mom and the fact that i use to be a chef i premake most of this and can or preserve my own sauces, all packed into a soft side cooler and prepared on a 3 burner coleman stove, the guys that become my partners through the years never complain about a 5$ a week to kick in and always appreciate the great meals i have, even had other fellow fisher-people(man,women and children) stop in to have a sample.with the usual comment "What are you some king of chef"
It if always fun and rewarding and the looks on peoples faces when you have a flag and you hand them the spoon and say "watch this stuff for me". MAY YOU ALL NEVER BE HUNGRY ON THE ICE........Fisbones. 8)  i guess i posted more than just a snack so when im just looking for something to snack on I always have slim-jims and granola bars
Fishbones,Sir I must respectfully ask you to clear something up for me.I recognize your skill in the world of culinary arts, but could you tell me when exactly are pancakes "in season"?You know what they say,the only dumb question is one you don't ask.N1N

Flatulation  problems?  Nawwwwwwww ;D  It's all part of the fun of being cooped up in a fish house on a cold blustery day....and besides when your buddy heads outside to catch some "fresh air", that's when you rig his line up for more pranks!  The only time it is a problem is when ya leave a mark in your shorts ;D :o :'(

Something quick.  Not time to eat.  Gotta either find fish or catch them.  For me, being on the Atkin's diet also makes things tough.  Venison jerky, Hickory Farms Party Bites, Old Wisconsin Pepperoni Bites, Polly O string cheese, peanuts, and Atkin's bars are my on ice staples.  However, nothing beats a good hot spicy bowl of venison chili with cheddar cheese and onions when you're out on the ice for a social event and catching fish isn't the main goal of being out there...

I like a nice watercress sandwich, with some tossed bean sprouts, and a mineral water.  Just kidding. BUDWEISER cans or keg, meat of a deer, any form, sausage is easy. If it's really cold a flask of Christian Brothers Brandy and some Berby Hollow Berry with vodka a 50-50 mix. That is good for what ales you.

When we are grilling, nothing beats a good ole Wisconsin Johnsonville brat.   Pistachio nuts are my favorite with any soda.  Wifes ho-made chocolate chip cookies.

For pocket nibbles I like my Venison Jerky or Smoked Trout( if their's any left ) but for a fillup, it's gotta be my Garlic- parsley-n-cheese sausage(stuffed in a natural casing) on fresh deli rolls with sauteed peppers and oniions.....MAN THATS EATIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Give your son a fish, and he will eat for a day.....teach your son to fish and eventually he'll end up kicking your @ss every time you fish together!!!

Birdseed, homemade deer jerky, pickeled hering (doubles as bait too) pepperoni sticks, and crab salad on crackers. YUMMMY

The early bird might get the worm but the second mouse will always get the cheese...
