Keep up the good work guy's!
Maybe with the weather cool-down you can get in some hard core hard water fishing to make the time blaze by. I don't think you realize the worst is really over. The part of getting through the first few days. Now it's mainly a matter of developing a different life pattern to where you just don't think about lighting up. For me that was the worst part, the habit of lighting one up.
very true.....I am on Welbutrin...so I really have no withdrawl symptoms........it's ALL mental.....which the Welbutrin helps with.....I would reccomend it to anyone!  It also curbs your appetite.....I have lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks ;D

Day 29 for me its easier but is still an effort, mind you I had smoked a pack a day for 20 years.  I did not tell anyone in my family till I made it 3-4 days and noone noticed.  That did not bother me though its you and you alone that has to do it.

Keep it up.  I took my buddy ice fishing one day and he wanted to stop before we got on the lake to get cigarettes.  I wouldn't stop because I wanted to get a good spot to fish.  He hasn't smoked since that day and it's been probably 10 years now.

Man...you all are blowing my mind!  Keep it up.  It seems someone new gets on this thread each day saying they, too, have recently quit.  All this encouragement has got to help!  Keep going and going and going and going!

Here's some info my dad gave me when I was trying to quit - I've kept the paper in my wallet ever since...it played a key role in my success....print this out and look at it often....show friends and family where you're at:

Changes your body goes through when you quit smoking:

Within 20 minutes of your last cigarette:
*  Blood pressure drops to normal rate
*  Pulse rate drops to normal rate
*  Body temperature of hands, feet increases to normal

8 Hours:
*  Carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
*  Oxygen level in blood increase to normal

24 Hours:
*  Chance of heart attack decreases

48 Hours:
*  Nerve endings start regrowing
*  Ability to smell and to taste things is enhanced

72 Hours:
*  Bronchial tubes relax, making breathing easier
*  Lung capacity increases

2 weeks ~ 3 months:

*  Circulation improves
*  Walking becomes easier
*  Lung function increases up to 30%!

1 ~ 9 months:
*  Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, shortness of breath decrease
*  Cilia regrow in lungs, increasing ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, reduce infection
*  Body's overall energy level increases

5 years:
*  Lung cancer death rate for average smoker (one pack a day) decreases from 137 per 100,000 (after 10 years, rate drops to 12 deaths per 100,000 or, almost the rate of nonsmoker

10 years:
*  Precancerous cells are replaced
*  Other cancers, such as those of the mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas, decrease (there are 30 chemicals in tobacco smoke that cause cancer!)

Never Another Puff!

Anyone try the niacinimide? A friend that I just ran into a few days ago,and passed this info on to him about a year ago ending up quiting at about that time and said it really did "help" (not saying it was easy) but took enough edge off that he wasn't as cranky etc.

I lost my my wife to lung cancer from smoking! She was 39! My son was 3 1/2 ! If you have kids , they should be the enough motivation to quit! Priorities!

Congrats to you all.  I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for almost 15 years.  I quit on New Years Eve 1993,  and am so glad I did.  The hardest part for me was when I would be hanging out putting down a couple of beers with friends, always wanted a smoke.  Well anyway 13 years later and I am so glad that I gave it up.  Let alone the price of a pack now in MASS is around $5.  what a great way to save money for other things like fishing.  And if you have children just remember that being there for them is what really matters.

P.S. watch your weight,  I gained almost 20lbs since. ;D ;D :D
Whats cooler than cool??  ICE COLD!!!
