Title: Sodus Bay BS Thread
Post by: deerefishyfishy on Feb 06, 2019, 06:22 PM
Lots of people suggesting it so here you go fellas... BS away. Maybe now we can all get back to reports and conditions on the "Reports and Conditions" thread. I'll start- I've been ice fishing on Sodus since last October and I've limited out by 9am every day on 12"+ perch using nothing more than yarn for line and bare paperclips for hooks. Sorry, but there probably aren't many left in there now...   ::);) ;D

got to love that one! You must be the guy just west of me last October in the Frabil..lol But reports and conditions did get hijacked for awhile. This may not end it but should help a little, as long as it stays on page one, because there are those who don't know there is page 2 and 3. It seems.

Thanks for starting this. I gave up on th3 reports side a couple weeks back. Shame,I wanted to report about the perch I hooked at third creek that ran out so much line, a guy landed him at the loop. Thank you sir, for giving me my #7 purple jigging rap back.  Dam, I just gave away my secret Sodus lure.

In all seriousness, where can you get on the ice for Sodus bay?  I've never fished there, and would like to try a different area.  I live in Irondequoit, so mainly do the ponds and the bay.  Thanks in advance for the advice

Check the Sodus Reports and Conditions page back a week or so ago.  There were a couple of detailed reports for access and parking spots.

Check the Sodus Reports and Conditions page back a week or so ago.  There were a couple of detailed reports for access and parking spots.

Very popular is 3rd Creek. It  has a fisherman’s parking lot with easy access to deep water but a long walk. Get there early as all of Wayne County will be parked there by 7am.

Did the bay get much snow last night?

Post by: klino2280 on Feb 09, 2019, 12:48 PM
The bay got 6' of snow from African north Western winds dropping in on the bay.

On a serious note, I gave up on the reports and Conditions page too.

Watched a guys hub blow across the bay today. Next to no snow on the bay with this wind.

I kinda figured the wind would blow any snow. Had no interest in fighting the wind this morning. Tomorrow is a better day windwise.

Went out Saturday and Oye! The wind! Shanty had some trouble taking the gusts. All in all slow. Couple few jumbos, not enough worth taking home. Saw the elusive sucker on camera. Still quality solid clear ice. 7"

No I didn't catch my limit. I didn't have much time either day to fish. My trips Saturday and Sunday were half a$$ed and quick.

I had enough for a couple meals though. ;D ;D

Being that I only live 5minutes from the bay, I don't look to limit out everyday.

Big Guy nothing has really changed at Sodus for the last 3 weekends that I have fished it. Ice is in good shape and slick, the bite is pretty steady, the better fish are deep, weeding out the dinks

Nothing has changed at sodus I have fished the same hole all season with the same results 30-60 quality fish brought home every time and deep water is not where I have been fishing less than 20fow all season for me.

Big guy I didn't refer to you as stupid sorry if you took it that way. I know you can figure things out your no rookie. Interesting that the under 20 fow is also producing well. The bite does get finicky about 10-10:30...the dinks move in heavy. I was playing with the swarm Sunday trying to see how far I could lift the swarm off the bottom. 16 ft of solid fish with no gaps. Yep the bay is loaded with perch. I have been averaging about 30-35 over 10inches.Good luck have fun.

I am going to assume he meant DEC police cause of a regular police asked me for my fishing license and to see my fish I'd laugh at them and keep walking no police but DEC police have jurisdiction to ask for a fishing license or to check your fish

Title: Re: Sodus Bay BS Thread
Post by: FishinDude0901 on Feb 14, 2019, 05:54 AM
Yeah that's exactly it lol trying to keep people off the ice? Out of the amount of people that fish sodus, the percentage is minuscule that even know this site exists i'm sure of it. Lot of old timers don't keep up with this stuff and I can't really blame them.  That NE wind this past weekend created a lot more open water. Although what ice is there is safe. Just obviously distance yourself from open water. But where I crushed the perch the other day, that's unsafe, you can't go there  :roflmao:

After a thaw we should all be using caution.

I can't state it any other way: there is many many air bubbles trapped in the ice.
Even though the ice is thick in spots, air bubbles in the ice is never a good thing, and does not make the ice as safe as sold d black ice throughout. I heard cracking as I was walking to spots also last weekend.

WE ALL NEED TO USE CAUTION

I am not trying to keep people away. As a local guy, I know some little known access spots that I will not share, and I also have private permission and access for other spots too.

I am simply stating the facts, that the ice is not uniform, and there is many spots that have air bubbles trapped in the ice.

Please also be aware that we got a decent amount of snow and freezing rain this week, use caution.

I bring my Spud with me on every single trip, no matter how thick the ice is. I use my Spud when there is snow on top just as much as I use it during early ice.

I cannot report how much snow is on the ice as I have not been out since last Sunday.

Use caution and stay on top.

Hey guys, not looking for handouts and I have thoroughly read both Sodus threads, but I’m asking for advice. Taking my 9 year old son out for his first time ice fishing and I want him to have some action. Seems like Sodus is putting up plenty of perch to keep him interested. Most of the reports I’ve read reference third creek. Looks like about a half mile walk to the start of the perch grounds. How is parking at 3rd creek? Do you think this is a good approach? It would be nice to catch some better fish but I don’t really care about the size, I just want the kid to have some action. Any opinions?

Lots of parking there,if you go on the weekend be there by 5:30 to avoid the rush.Been there 6 times and done well every time. From what I've seen I would suggest being there and set up before the sun comes up.

Third creek at about 7:30am. I have 2 hour plus drive so I'll never be there much earlier. Ice access about where red arrow is. A jig and spikes or wax worms will elicit a lot of action. You dont necessarily have to go out as far as everyone else to get action either. Hope all goes well and good luck ;D

Oh and don't forget the snacks n drinks ;) that was for many years my boys favorite part when they were young, stopping and letting them get what they wanted to take. Shoot they were in there upper teens and it was still part of it lol.

Bait shops on/near Sodus Point from intersection of Rt 10& Rt 14 to point.
Aware of the two at south end of lake (Davenport and Bay Bridge) but trying to avoid lost time fishing to acquire bait. Might have to go to plastics and gulp.  Anyways, i’d appreciate a reference for a tackle store off Rt 14

if you go out tomorrow you better go early. Hurricane force wind gusts later in the day. They are saying the lake level could rise enough that you may be floating on a huge raft. Just a warning. Be careful

How's the snow and pull out there today after the snowfall? Have sleds cut a decent path out? Specifically looking for info on 3rd Creek area.

was out of conley's area drag out was brutal. Back wasn't as bad but still enough to make you ask yourself why. I never went past eagle island. Cuz I wasn't gonna drag any more

Some sleds and ATVs have cut some paths so it isn't too bad. About 4"- 5" as it compressed a bit today in the warmth. Dress down on the pull out and in as you will get warm. I kept two dozen 9 to 12" perch in 28 FOW. Had to sort through dinks. Tip downs were a savior for bigger keepers as the wanted bigger fatheads.

Well puppets and clowns it’s time again to get ready for the show of shanty city out there again this year. Yes to many people are claiming the best fishing in years, y’all need to stop that shiv and let people find fish for them selves. Otherwise in 3/4 yrs sodas will whine up the Dead Sea again where you can’t buy a perch over 8” it was almost 10yrs sense we had fishing as good yes but it keeps getting over fished and people are keeping perch down to like 4&5” was disgusting. I wish there was a min size to perch of 8” or more. And don’t get me started on the pike bite or the Gil’s and Rocky’s I haven’t had a pike to the hole on sodus in many a year. Way to long that fishery is not to good in the bay neither. Let’s all work for the better of the fishing. Good day

As for the pike I caught 1 last year not even targeting them and landed time nice 28" female. Walleyes where caught last year as well. Hoping to find a few more of them this year

I fish most bays from Sodus to the st Lawrence , plus of course Oneida and a few others lakes  , I’m never disappointed as I’m happy just to get out , and my freezer seems pleased
Social media is here to stay So followers - lurkers can chase bites and there has always been chasers even before all this technology
Guys play safe this season and have fun

I agree social media can get a bit irritating. However, to say Sodus will never be the same is a bit of an extreme statement. If ppl can’t go out and get a nice batch of fish out there maybe they should just sell their gear! ;D I spend a ton of time on all of the Ontario Bays on the boat, as well as on the hardwater. There are a ton of perch in the bay. Some years are better than others, seems like everything runs in cycles. Plenty of fish in that bay as well as all of the others. There will always be those who chase bites and look to social media for reports or a hot bite. That’s why I love boat fishing this time of year. Nobody’s around. I just go out and fish and use the knowledge I do have. Doesn’t matter what others on here or on Facebook have to say.

I'm afraid Ice Shanty is social media also. If people want to brag (and who doesn't at least quietly) then you are always going to have company.
Hope everyone has a great ice season this winter. Cya.

It does very true. Then to use it your spending time on gas to get there gas for the boat so on and so forth. And really that not the point as much as I really would not use it enough to justify it. Work seasonal 55hr mon to sat then got a nephew I help with racing, just busy. I know could work more and everything else and fish but I think it’s to much as it is.
Really I would love to have a boat

Trapper, you are a man of many subtleties.
That just made me bust the buttons off my shirt laughing! None of your statements are true. There isn't a single perch left in Sodus Bay. Which means there can't possibly be a single perch left in Lake Ontario. Which would also mean that can't possibly be another fish left in any body of water that is connected with a channel to Lake Ontario. This can only mean 1 thing, that the thousands of people filling up wheel barrows with their neighborhood kids on Sodus Bay have caused all of Lake Ontario to become perchless.
I found all this info out from lurking on social media.

Life is pretty good - just retired so hoping to get some mid week fishing in to avoid Sat crowds!!  Hope all is well with you.  Would like to catch up with once at Sodus for fun.  Now to the plastics - any suggestions for putting something in my tackle bag.  Not sure where even to start.  Did use plastics once way up in Quebec for eyes but not anywhere locally.  Again life is treating you fairly.

She caught this all by herself inside the shanty,  while I was outside setting tipups.

Enjoy these days, they probably won't last forever.  My daughter used to always fish with me, and still likes it, but is so busy with high school sports these days.

I miss those times!  Hopefully the ice holds up so I can get her out over school break week in 2 weeks.

Thank you. She helped flour and bread "her" fillets along with the rest that we caught. We had a nice perch dinner together.

She was so excited for perch, (more specifically HER perch) that she didn't want to put anything else on her plate. I can't wait till she is old enough to help me fillet them out like her older sisters already do.😁

Thanks Chevy!!! She loves to be outside with Daddy, hunting, fishing, and cutting up game meat. I always"create" a job for her to"help"with... Even if it takes me wayyyy longer to complete. The best part is, she still wears a dress every day to school, and every Sunday to go to church.

On a side note, since my daughter's fish has taken over this Sodus B.S. thread, I might as well share a couple more photos of her with dead critters 😁 She has been lugging around daddy's harvests since she was old enough to walk, and I've taken her Ice fishing since she was 2. I feel it's an important thing to raise the next generation of sportsmen/women at an early age. For me, I was blessed with 3 girls, and have to deal with lots of long hair, clogged drain from the long hair, and lots of pink and purple. However, taking them out hunting or fishing with me helps make them more comfortable around it later in life. My dad took me fishing less than 12 times growing up, and he never took me hunting as he didn't hunt. I remember each time fishing with my dad vividly, and wish he had taken me more. I would rather get less fishing in on any given day, and help her catch fish, then go out by myself and pound the fish.
P.S.  after these pictures, I'm done highjacking the thread with proud Daddy pictures.

Here is a few of her"critter moments:

Not hijacking bud I'm sure you made a lot of us smile...thank you, my Dad and Mom were fisher people I was blessed.

You are most welcome. When I see any of my 3 daughters(14,12&4 years) smile from an outdoor activity, it melts my heart. I get tears of joy seeing their excitement level. My 12 year old loves to go late season duck hunting, even though she doesnt quite shoot herself yet. She calls out the flocks and the "loaners"... My 12&4 year olds drive around and scout snow geese, and help me package, vacuum seal, label, and grind up my deer. Sometimes they would rather have their heads burrows in their smart phones, tablets, and social media. When we hunt or fish together, they typically wont even bring them along because they don't want to lose it or break it. Regardless of their reason, it forces them to spend time detoxing from the rest of life while o. The ice or in the woods. These outdoor activities are not only fun for us, but they also provide good, quality food that is fresh, and as organic and natural as it can get. Most importantly, the activities help teach them discipline. Following rules, bag limits, daily limits, legal shooting times, following ice safety rules ( I practice safety with them, teaching them how to get out if we have an emergency...etc etc)

Sometimes it's hard for them to see the benefits of all those things at their ages, but I hope they will appreciate it and thank me later in life.

And as many of you guys have said, enjoy the times now because they grow up fast.

On a side note, it would be great to not have many more warm ups for a while so we can get an ice quality that I feel comfortable taking my daughters out on.

I feel that is a safe assumption. However, exercise caution if you go out. The snow is hiding pressure cracks.

Heard of a few guys going for a cold swim off the south end attempting to cross a pressure crack.

Just wanted to say that I’m glad the gentleman that fell thru is ok. But a correction to snow snakes comment, there was one man that fell thru over in the area of Newark and eagle islands coming from the third creek area. As stated many times before THERE IS/WAS OPEN WATER TO THE WEST OF EAGLE ISLAND AND SOUTH OF NEWARK ISLAND. THERE IS BREAK/SHOVE ICE FROM THORNTON POINT TO NEWARK ISLAND THE BAY IS NOT SAFE TO JUST GO OFF WILLY NILLY. please every one let this lucky end situation remind us to be humble and pay attention.
I found a lot of slush from the south end up to Bonnie castle about 8/9” total ice when I stopped even with Nicholas pt, 6 was good 3 was crap ice as I went further north the ice thickness and quality went away fast. In about 200 yds it was down to 6” total and 2 were good 4 was crap, and yes as most prolly saw there is a slush pocket in center of the ice layers.
Be careful the bite is off right now at the moment so maybe stay home for a few days.
Good luck all be safe

Now that today's events are over,  and all are safe. Think about this..its reported that the man was in the water 20 minutes. 20 minutes to drop what your doing, race to the air boat, suit up, and head out to the scene. Carefully navigating away from the many other fishermen so not to jeopardise their safety. And make the rescue ....all in 20 minutes. How fortunate we are as fishermen to know those Hero's  are there. Especially with declining numbers of volunteers all over the state fire departments. Thanks from all us sometimes not so smart fishermen !!!
That being said that crust will be softening to slush with tomorrow's warm temps. Use exstreme caution.

Couldn't agree more!!!

There are a few of us on here that keep saying the ice is inconsistent. Must be the folks out on machines know more than we do..... Or have a brass set the size of basketballs that they have found a way to tuck. 😁😁

Either way, I'm not going out on anyone's machine right now, and still have my Spud in my hand for every single step.

I'm leaving the ice dry and on foot every time I go out.

However, I'm really glad there have not been any serious incidents on Sodus Bay this year.

I have been on it a lot too ……….. seen major changes in just hours with the sun out and temp close to 50 ! Walking out Sunday morning from 3rd around 9:45 I noticed the open water spot had frozen over and had snow on it …… I stopped , told a couple guys there is potential for tragedy today with that open spot frozen up over night , their response was WHAT open water ……. just a couple hours later I heard the sirens and started praying immediately !!

I’m not sure how many people know what’s going on out at the bay this winter but it will continue to be like this for years to come if the county and state don’t repair the blow out in the levee and do something about the guy breaking the ice with his tug. These are not rare conditions, these are the conditions that will be until at least the levee is repaired. So if it’s not a place someone doesn’t know or is scared about then don’t fish there, on the other side I have been running a machine for a week with no issues. Maybe it’s called intelligence or maybe I looked and found my routes and feel comfortable on 5”+ of good ice on the way, I don’t feel like dragging a mile plus with my bad hip now that there is snow cover. I have found spots that are chewed up by the current/torrent from Newark down the channel. I will not be out there again until after the cold this weekend.

If I am out and someone does need help with direction for safe ice or pulling gear and I have my machine I will always do my best help.

You keep saying this guy with the tug breaking up ice may early on in november he 2as still getting it out breaking up ice but it's not like he does it in January and February. Even so him breaking give with a tug over by the Tressel is going to have no effect on ice over by 3rd creek where them guy went in this weekend. And good for you using a ma hine and feeling comfortable about it my humble opinion is that mo machine should be on the ice yet as it's not 100% uniform ice.

two weeks ago I saw more or less a straight line of broken ice across the bay just south of newark island over to eagle island. Is this what you were talking about the tug boat breaking ice?  To clear a few things up. The rescue air boat came on the ice from Briscoe cove road  near where I was fishing, ran the shore line up to about Thornton pt. Then across to south west side of eagle island to make the rescue sunday. Having said that the air boat did break some ice in the Briscoe cove area where the dock bubbles are. I'd stay away from that area for a while.

If that’s how the air boat ran then they were prolly at the line of shove ice that ran from west of Thornton point all the way to the channel between Newark and eagle islands, which has had for most of the season a open pocket of water along the west side of eagle island I don’t know how big it was by any means I am not interested in a polar plunge. This is being caused by the extra current coming from the lake through the blown out section of Burm/levee/dyke near Leroy island, I believe. Some business owner has a tug this year docked at katlyns marina and has taken it to the lake and broke up all the ice on his way out a few times, I have not personally seen it but have seen videos and was told it’s been at least 3x so far so that is not helping anything. I can’t get to where I like to fish because I wouldn’t feel safe on the break ice. The bay is changing hands down.

Fellow fishermen, Lets not squabble please. Let's remember why we have this site. First and foremost...to keep all of us safe and maybe a tip or two along the way. Shanty doesn't have the effect it once had. Less and less guys posting needed imformation. More squabbles and drama in the last few years.  I recall getting hammered last season for posting accurate measured conditions last year not because my observations weren't accurate but because my post would bring more guys to Sodus and fish out all their perch or maybe plant a guy on their spot by chance. We are a unique brotherhood no doubt. Some braver or crazier then other without question.

I'm not worried either, if they are biting I will find and catch them. I have fished Sodus for years and have many productive spots. It's a big bay. I tend to give fellow fisherman their space and normally fish away from the crowd or shanty towns. I don't worry about fishing out Sodus or any other bay. 50 plus years of Experience tells me the perch population does cycle every few years but they are always there.

I will go out of my way to be away from the crowds.

I have  not  been out this  year  without my spud in hand! and you can't  spud  while riding a  snowmobile ,that's  my  first observation ,my second  this year I have  found  more  good ice go bad  within a  few yards then I ever have  before ,so you can't  be sure. fishing, I have had a good year , walleyes and  some  nice perch on Oneida and  lots of  gills  other places ......I  was  fishing  when most people were waiting  , either I traveled a little or  fished  open water ,I don't understand   why other  guys  didn't  fish the open water  too .....my  advice  is ,be real careful  it's a dangerous year, use a  spud  get a  float suit or  a co2 vest ice spikes rope .and   take  your  time in this slush  heart attack will kill you just as dead as drowning. good  luck

Headed out tomorrow to catch a mess of them mini stripers. Has anyone found a decent gill bite on the bay this year? No one I have talked to had more then 4/5 in a day. Don’t normally target them lil guys but I could go to put a bag or 2 in the freezer.

I would figure the south end near the bait shops would produce some. Or in front of Connelly's area. Let us know how the ice is, I will probably make the trip sunday for some gold! Or gills whichever floats my boat that day

Bait shops is off right now I was thinking Conley’s maybe pork barrel area. As for Leroy it’s been real tough this year with the extra channel up there and access is getting worse and worse up there. They even trying to block off the stairs as of last year. I think I’m gonna hit the perchin grounds deeper and then head for Conley’s to try some gills. Thanks all. As for ice conditions my report I was given today was 8” total 5-6” good ice slush layer then 1” or so of crap ice on top. Will let y’all know my actual findings tomorrow. As par for this year I can still say stay away from the west side of eagle island, has not been good all year another product of that extra channel.

Listen guys, the funniest part is y'all are just jealous that my 4yo daughter can catch bigguns that are bigger than what you can catch. She is an ice fishing maniac like her sisters are.

That said, I've been super busy at work and at home, not sure if I'm going to even be able to get out Saturday or Sunday... Then Monday it's back on the over time train.

She is a beast. She was pulling the shanty by herself with that snow/slush mix that was on the bay 2weekends ago. She got mad when I tried to help her.

Alfed- she has had a "following" since she was 2 when she started ice fishing. I even took her out for an afternoon gun hunt on one of the afternoons when it wasn't too cold for her.

She is in love with running 5k road races too. You should see some of the grown adults she cruises past in the race 🤪

On a side note, I could use her as a marketing tool for my guide business.....could you imagine this Moto:

"Catch'um with Klino" guide service.... Home of the 4 year old that out fishes her Daddy Everytime.

On A serious note... I really enjoy fishing with my daughters more than I like fishing by myself.... I get more excitement out of them catching fish, and being self sufficient, and getting better each time out.

That's right man, that's how it all started. We fished for less than 40 minutes that day, same songs together, and caught dink perch to get her feet wet. Took me 4 times longer to get her stuff packed and my ice stuff packed.... She was potty training at the time too which made it super challenging.... But now she loves it.

Yes, T as she is frequently referred to, is a monster. She helps with house projects, nails all of her memory verses at church each week, and loves to be outside. She is always full of energy, and loves to help out and be a part of everything that is going on. I don't care who catches all the fish, long as the freezer gets stocked 🤪🤪

So we seemed to have missed most of the snow here in Irondequoit so far.  Hoping the same can be said for Sodus.  Temps are already dropping and hoping everything tightens up and maybe even adds to our good ice thickness.  Looking to get out again Saturday.

So I know nice fish are hard to  come by this year. I'm going to put it this way no all the bug fish haven't been caught. Yes 100+ guys out everyday has put a hurting on the population as to why it's not all slobs and we have to weed the dinks again. But remember those small fish we are throwing back is out future. Also with the ice coming on so late this year I personally think that has alot to do with the rough fishing

It has changed ownership a few years back. My family knows the new owner and we have reached out asking for personal permission.

We have not received a response yet.

On another note, had anyone crossed the pressure crack on the south end near great grassy point lately?

Yea here’s the recommendation don’t go tomorrow unless your partaking in the local 86 derby. Parking will be horrible and travel is very sketchy for long distances on the bay this year

Try parking along Shaker Creek Road (known as 3rd Creek access spot). It will be busy so go real early or mid day and spots may open up. Stay on the paths that have been traveled by others. Get to 20 to 25 feet of water and start searching for fish. Wear "ice picks" and bring a spud bar to check the ice as you go.

Last time I was down there there was no lights or sign indicating the butler. He doesn’t have the right to do what he is doing neither. He has the bubbler aimed down the shore line away from his dock, if it were under the end aiming up we would still be able to access. The state I hear has already talked to him. Not to mention it’s a designated state parking lot, and I believe fishing access.

simple youthink the man is  in the wrong call the DEC .......let us know how that works out for you

Ice eaters and bubblers help protect docks, piers and boathouses from ice damage during the winter by disturbing the formation of ice. According to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, there are no rules pertaining to the use of any kind of ice-eating machine on any public lake in New York.Feb 12, 2010

Perhaps it could have been the 50+ cars parked there up and down his street, and in front of his driveway. I have spoken with the guy several times over the years. He goes out and fishes through the ice as well. A few years ago when Sodus Bay turned into a complete zoo, people were blocking his driveway, and several others around that area.

Speigel Drive was one of my most favorite places to access the ice, and not many folks other than locals knew about it....social media and the bait shops would flood people there like crazy.

Do I miss getting on the ice there? Hell yea I do.

But I'm on his side due to all the idiots ruining opportunities like this and the loop at maiden Lane in the point.

If people keep the shenanigans up, we will lose a couple more spots too.

Has anyone been out recently from 3rd creek lately. Just wondering how the ice conditions are. Thank you in advance

Going back to having a hard time getting big perch, don't forget that only about 1/10th of that bay is fished probably less. They're in there. Good luck if you get out!

I can't give you first hand report as I have not fished or been out to check.

There is a decent amount open water out towards the point, and the culvert has eaten away at a good portion of the ice by the road when I drove by 3rd creek last night.

This is only my opinion, but I don't think I would take a machine out tomorrow after the warm up last weekend/early this week.

Couple guys I heard from early in the week said that the ice deteriorated rather quickly as there wasn't really great black ice to start with.

I'm sure someone will chime in here on this and know way more than I do, and may perhaps tell you otherwise.

The ice has been inconsistent all year, and I would encourage you and everyone else to stay on the cautious side... We don't need to jeopardize our lives or the lives of our first responders either.

When in doubt, walk and Spud.

I personally don't ever take a machine out. Not a position I really want to put myself in honestly. I play the conditions. Some times I drag my well built, collapsible Smitty sled, some times it's just the shanty, some times it's just a mini jet sled.

I know myself too well, if I bring a machine out, I'll push the limits too far and be somewhere I shouldn't be.

I just leave my house earlier if the drag will take a little longer.

Use caution this weekend.

Fished out of third creek today in 35FOW. Caught 22 keepers between 2 guys. Chrome spoon with a perch eye did the trick today.

If you want excellent bait and information about the ice, Davenport's Bait will let you know. they are stand up (Donny-owner) guys and always treat you good. They are by far the best any where I've been. their information is priceless when warning you of bad areas and hidden dangerous spots as reported back to them. it doesn't matter what part of the bay you fish, He will share information. God bless you Donny. Wish others would do the same.
I felt obligated since I have been treated so good for many years there. it's also nice to have the best bait by far.

Ditto that.  Next time there ask him about the time he drove across the bay when he was a kid.  Interesting and funny.
I have been buying bait there for 40+ years. The place never changed. And that’s a good thing.

Just to see for myself, I just got back from checking the parking at Sodus. All I can say is I’m glad I am retired and don’t  have to fish the weekends.  Third creek was lined up way up the road in both directions and on both side of the road for much of it.  I have never seen so many cars there - ever!

30 FOW

Third creek

100 dinks, 5 keepers, 1 giant whitefish.

6/7" of ice (3 black, 3 white)

Slush is frozen. Snow is manageable but heavy snow at shore and opens to near bare ice.

All and all, better than working but the pan will not be making any dinner tonight!

Are you sure that was a whitefish? The guy next to me last week caught this Cisco. It was around 16”.

Cisco and whitefish are one of the same. My home lake Owasco at one time was plentiful with them in the early years. They never called them whitefish. Always Cisco's.  The old timers would fly fish for them at dawn and  dusk.

Sorry to disagree. Same Genus but different species.  Notice the lower lip extends beyond the tip of the snout. That occurs in Ciscoes not whitefish.

That’s it. Maybe I should have gone out then. Normally there’s close to that at 3rd alone during the week, let alone a weekend.
Or did you miss a 0 on there meaning 1000 shanty’s out there. Would make a bit more sense with the bay bridge derby.
Either way good meal.

I bet the fine members of the Sodus Point Bass Club that took the time to have a derby love to be called bassholes. It was a perch and pike derby that some real good fisherman enter.
I forgot sorry. Bass fishermen are the only ones that matter. My mistake.

For the record bass holes know exactly who they are. Not everyone that bass fishes is a jerk but I’m a scumbag because I fish and others that fish and sometimes garbage gets left. I try to pick up garbage and be a good sportsmen but I’m scum cuz I fish and many people leave garbage.

So in short unfortunately people get categorized and stereotyped. I apologize about being human.
