Decent early morning for perch at MDB on Jan. 15 with fish hitting as soon as I got the jig down near bottom.  All were spitting up scud.  They shut down at about 8:30 when the sun hit the ice.

Any ice report for up by log bay, perch island??
[/quote open water south side of perch island all the way over to dome and north. The only thing froze is the inner bay and didn’t walk on it.

Huddle was on fire all day today IF you found them. Very spotty and tightly clumped but they were coming up 10-15’ off the bottom when there were no lakers around.

does anyone have current conditions for PILOT KNOB ?

Wide open. The ice line is about even with the Pilot Knob Firehouse, just south of FA Beach.

Had this happen a few times now where I am in 40FOW in the shanty and a laker swims right up the hole, if I was paying more attention and not totally shocked I could have grabbed it. Anyone else seen this?? Also jigging seems to be the ticket for lakers I can not buy one on a tipup. under the ice on the bottom, nothing. something has to be wrong, using floro-carbon leader, suckers shiners still nothing. Frustrating!!

when we were there last week, they were really relating to the schools of bait.  you would see the bait arrive on the screen, and you could draw the school up with your jig then they would suddenly disappear, and it was like a 5 sec count from there to the laker crushing your jig.  Not that we landed many of the ones that we hooked lol. I think when they are really on bait, sometimes something different looking like a jig excels since it is something they can really target that is moving differently.

You were jigging perch I take it? My buddy once had a Laker follow a perch right up the hole and onto the ice. The Laker never touched the perch or his jig or anything.

I am hoping to head up to LG on Saturday. With the beautiful weather and a girlfriend that has never stepped foot on the ice, I want to get her some sort of action. I was thinking MDB or Harris Bay and doing some searching for schooling perch. Is finding the grass beds the key? I have a flasher and am looking to cover some ground if I have to to find them. Also, how deep do you need to go for jigging lakers? I grew up in western NY and fished Keuka Lake which made it seem easy to catch lakers and I know it won't be the same in LG. Any information is greatly appreciated! Tight lines everyone!

target 35 FOW for the perch and 55FOW for the trout is a good starting place.  Fish are plentiful if you are not seeing action on your flasher within minutes move!  Good luck

You can drive a machine across the middle of the lake in huletts.

I was out snowmobiling at Huletts this weekend.  Ice thickness ranged from around 10" near Agnes Island to about 6" near the north end of the Mother Bunch.  That's a four inch variation over a couple of miles.  Be very careful!

Tight lines,
Bob

We were going after lakers but my son wanted to use a Hali, I knew it was a laker immediately when it chased, crushed the jig. I can never seem to get into the perch in MDB, but I am also probably too deep

I'd like to try Huddle Bay.  Any directions to an access would be greatly appreciated.
