accuweather and weather.com say only WSW and W winds all day for LG village and Bolton Landing. The MDB area and Harris Bay ice could be pretty safe from wind I think.
All the way up to Monday. Hopefully in the next few nights it makes some good ice.

Some idiot is out there off MDB in a Jon boat breaking up the ice trying to fish open water.  >:(
Good way to make friends!

Too bad someone couldn't start a law suit against that guy. That ice eater doesn't protect anything. He doesn't have a dock and I'm pretty sure the water doesn't come anywhere near his sea wall.

I'm told someone did and won 5-6k when their family dog died in open water created by his bubbler.  Not sure how accurate that is...

Two questions. Is there any ice at Hearthstone? And has anyone noticed if the gate is opened?

No, I'm not goofy enough to risk walking on the ice if there is any. I'd like to throw the row boat and the electric motor in the back of the truck and go out for a couple hours. The salmon trolling must be amazing right now. There are other places on the east side I could access easier, but i'd like to use the shore as a wind break to make it easier, and more importantly, safer.

I see it now. I kinda just skimmed through the posts earlier when I was at the office and didn't catch it.

Anyone know about the gate?

Always makes me nervous on the 1st weekend of some ice and out of towers try to walk or skate on it down at MDB.

We've got all kind's of local crazies chomping at the bit to get on with such a late start.
Combine that with a pile of out of towners up here for the winter carnival.
I seriously hope rescue teams are loaded and ready to rip before 7 am Saturday. I've got a bad feeling about the weekend.
I hate to be the dude to say it out loud. This is a reality.

In today's world it would probably be better to request an environmental impact statement on ice eaters in general. No one knows what pumping millions of gallons of warmer bottom water to the colder surface does to the ecosystem.  I always find it ironic that they are so worried about invasive species and they put mats down that kill everything and 50 yards away they have large underwater fans pulling the water from the bottom and spreading it all over the lake.

There's a big section of open water from the jacka$$ in the Jon boat. Unless it gets real cold it'll be pretty obvious the ice isn't safe

If you can break the ice with any efficiency/speed, it's not very safe though right? I've broke through a hundred yards or so of 2 inch ice to get to open water and it was much harder then I thought. When it's gonna freeze, some dude in a John boat is not gonna stop it

They were throwing a big anchor to break the ice and pulling themselves forward. Granted the ice wasn't very thick but that doesn't help.

Yeah that sounds stupid and like a lot of work, but not going to be the difference between fishing or not unless they plan on doing it every day for the next week.

Beer will get you through times of no ice better than ice will get you through times of no beer...
