I'm more than happy with mid February.  If it goes to mid March like usual, that's a good month.  But I sure can keep my fingers crossed for earlier!

I may seriously take 2 weeks of PTO and do sales calls from my otter....assuming it freezes....which it better...if it knows what's good for it.

The beauties of modern technology man.
Most of my job is ordering and keeping track of market trends on Instagram.  :P
Gets a little tough paying attention to Instagram and suspended marks on a flasher at the same time, but I deal. Whoa is me!  ;)

Relatively new at laker jigging game but one thing I've noticed is the high amount of missed bites and dropped fish both through the ice and open water. Some days are better than others but some days it's like hooking up 1 out of 3 bites than only landing 1 out 3 hooked fish. Any suggestions on lures or rod selection? Would a softer rod help or a stiffer rod?

You guys really think it'll be locked up around February 18th? Just got offered a chance to push back my vacation next weekend-- for the 3rd time this winter. Deciding whether I want to drive up to fish small lakes in the ADKs or hold out for the King.

Do they still run the invasive checks and such during the winter at the boat launches?

Might have to convince my buddy to dig the boat out so we can go jig lakers. I have never done it off the boat suppose you would have to wait for a really calm no wind day to keep your bait in the cone. Iv drop shotted for smallies in deep water with the finer before suppose lakers would be similar.

I do some vertical jigging from a boat and sometimes it's just too windy to keep your jig in the cone. Using 2 anchors, one from the bow and another off the stern helps..... But nothing beats the ice...

Down where I live I jig open water on the NYC Reservoirs for lakers and simply increase the size of the jig by 1/2 to 1 full oz to help keep the jig on the sonar in choppy/moving water. If it's dead calm, the vexilars work great, if not which is 90% of the time, we'll use regular sonar (Lowrance Elite 5 and 7) and just crank up the sensitivity and chart speed and you'll be able to easily track your jigs! Really cool watching a nice arch suddenly turn skyward to meet up with your descending Jig!!! Also, Power Pro Depth Hunter braid is great for open water jigging. It is metered just Leadcore with 4 colors; each color equals 25' and within each color, white hash marks signify every 5' of depth within the color so you'll know exactly where you are if you lose the jig on screen! I can tell you with confidence that the action on open water can at times be as much fun as the ice! You're constantly moving and jigging fresh locations which is along the same line of thinking as we do on the ice!!

I'll be jigging one of my local spots on Thursday since winter apparently is over down here! Lol!
