Could some of you locals advise me as to what type of fishing I can expect in front of or near the Trout House village resort? We used to come up and fish in Bolton Landing at Vets park, and Cotton bay point?? it has been a few years now. We will be staying in a cabin for four days in Feb looking to fish for whatever, we will be walking, but we are young. Thanks so much for any help in advance.

You are within walking distance of good perch grounds at Trout house.  In fact there is I big grass flat basically straight out from trout house known to us locals as the "middle grounds".  There's a lot of bubblers in that area however so you will need to get on at the town beach with is just south of trout house.  Good luck

Thank you all for your help and insight to this area. We will post pics of our trip. All we need now is ice. Is there a bait shop near the Trout House? Thanks again for all your help. Good luck.

Also, unless something has changed since this summer, he doesn't sell fishing licenses anymore.

Another option for bait is the Crossroads General store off exit 25 in Chestertown.  Head east on Rt. 8 which goes to Hague (Trout House).  Take your first left (near exit) and follow signs less than 1/4 mile to Crossroads.  Great food there also. Rt. 8 takes you past Brant Lake over Graphite Mountain to Hague, about 17 miles.

The Cross roads in Chestertown is your best bet for bait....probably the closest to.  There is also Norms bait and tackle in crown point.

Sea run smelt are just as good as long as they are fresh.  I have caught sea run night fishing at bakers smelt camp in Maine and can attest to it.  Looking forward to seeing cast iron frying pans and seasoned bread crumbs out on the ice locally.

I'm itching to camp.  Was talking to Fontana19 about it.  The ability to be on the best water the second the sun comes up has advantages especially early ice.

thats what I figured was the case, people in Maine are crazy about them, they just are nothing special by the time they get to my big y.  I'd like to day of smelting in Maine sometime, def part of a well rounded NE icefishermans resume

Love the smelt shack pic... key is you have to have a wood stove to burn your A-- on and a long trough to stick your foot in and get wet after you have had a few beers
