Went to North West bay yesterday near Bear point. We had 13 laker hook up`s. Caught 9 of them. Only a couple dozen perch. One pike. Nice day.

thats a nice laker!

My guess is, in the next few weeks we will see alot more big lakers show up. Its that time of year where they get super aggressive and hit anything you throw at them.

SS...why is this the time of year that the lakers go nuts?? Just wondering?

Really? Great that the temperature was -6. Just wondering how that is going to change 14" of snow into solid :o

If anyone goes up today, I would be interested to see how the it really is.

Thanks

baitfish begin to go into the shallows to look for spawning area's. The water temps begin to warm up a little bit as the days get longer. Lakers also start moving into shallower key area's in big numbers to spawn as well.

Always have done very well in mid march until ice out for lakers. Had 10 fish evenings in 2 hours with NO electronics.

I thought Lakers spawn in the fall  ;) Various minnows spawn many times throughout the year.. There is no firm date or time for them to reproduce, they do multiple times through the year..Smelt head to the tribs in spring to spawn and lakers stage off the tribs to gourge..
Why would the water temps rise with a frozen covered top ? While the tribs waters might rise slightly due to warming of open water Any melting ice would cause the temps to drop....

Any snow / ice reports??

I screwed up my knee dragging through all that crap a month ago and it's too close to baseball season to risk it again  :o

I thought they spawned in the spring. Guess I just learned something!

and as far as bait I was talking about the Smelt specifically and the lakers movement during the smelt spawn.

Tough perch bite this afternoon, but there are bigger ones showing up.  Caught ciscoes about 8 inches too in 30 ft. of water.  Had the camera and would watch the perch swim up to the jig, the minute it moved, they turn and swam away.. Tough walking.....Barebow
