I think they should change the limit to 3 fish away any size. That would help the bigger fish get to feed easer. Most guys would keep the fish they catch.Every one happy and some thing for dinner. :icefish:
Amen brother, I am getting sick of dumping 20-22" lakers back down the hole knowing they are the best eating size.  I'll be up again this weekend looking for some dinner.

I agree with Aj454. There should be a perch thread. Many of us target perch and an exchange of ideas would be a good thing. Let me begin by stating that I really like that Lake George perch don't have the black grubs found in so many other lakes. For my money they are the best eating of fresh water fish, with the exception possibly of walleyes. Any thoughts of favorite jigs, baits, etc? How many use flies? Are those tiny fresh water shrimp they feed on found in other lakes?Does anyone "chum" perch? I will not ask where your favorite perch beds are, please don't ask for mine.

Not frozen yet.   Give it a couple more weeks.     I'm planning a trip next Wednesday.   Had to give the lakers a break and fill the freezer up

I fished Cotton Point this AM and also caught 4 lakers (no keepers). First 90 minutes of fishing was good, after 9:30 chasers weren't hitting!

Nice Laker, also, nice pike a couple of posts ago.  I thought the beard looked a little off since we fished together last weekend.  I thought maybe you grew beard like Tim Allen in The Santa Clause.

Changing  the subject, has anyone caught a salmon this winter? I'm old enough to remember when the state used to stock rainbow trout. For whatever reason Salmon are pretty scarce these days. I'll probably open a can of worms, but I would suggest discontinuing stocking of salmon, to be replaced by stocking rainbows in the warm months after the lakers have gone deep. Would also suggest lowering size limit on lakers to 21", and resuming smelt fishing under strict controls and strong enforcement.
I`d like to see lakers back down to 21" and 3 per person the way it use to be. The salmon stocking in the King is a disaster and has been for a long time.

I'm new to this forum and considering ice fishing Lake George for lakers.  Would anyone be willing to offer any advice on areas to fish, depth, any other tips? Thank you.

For depth try any wheres from 40-90 feet of water. Use suckers just off the bottom on tip-ups. Jigging with a white swedish pimple tipped with a minnow head works good.

he's right...another idea is talking to a local bait store for access points to these type of areas.

Thanks. I've caught lakers on open water, but not through the ice -- just LL salmon (in Maine), pike, etc. Appreciate your advice.

As Reddog 11 was saying on the size limit, I agree with dropping the size limit down to 21" But I also think that a Slot would be Benificial to the Lake, I would like to see the regs Reading 2 Lake Trout between 21" to 25" and one Lake Trout over 30" . This would allow an Angler to take a "Trophy" home. And as far as eating Lake trout I would like to see the 21-25" Taken
