That answers my next question, which was how long do you spend on a hole before moving. Thats probably my problem, wasting too much time on dead holes.
yeah move move move..then u will find a "holy ~@#%$ hole"..and hopefully you have a gps.some years I will find that hole and fish within 30 yards  the whole seaon..other years you gotta keep moving..
friends dont let friends fish dead holes.

I actually only drilled 2 holes today but happened to hit a honey hole    Marked no fish for first 30 minutes.  If it wasn't so cold I would if moved.      But all of a sudden.    Here they come.    But I like to move around

Hey Big Red. NO spoons in 2 years,  I don't believe that. I do agree sticks work great with the right wiggle. Glad to hear you recovered so i can let you catch some of my fish.

I think they key with the lakers too and let me know if you all agree is to find the food. Find humps loaded with perch and cisco/smelt schools and the lakers are there BIG TIME. When I go to spots and there's clouds of bait (spots I've found and consistently hold bait) usually within minutes I will start marking lakers. Kinda common sense, but if you find these spots there is not much searching to do.

That works but a lot of places that hold the lakers in the winter are flats. Those fish are cruising and you really don't mark the bait unless they happen to swim under your hole. A lot of time I like to use what I call a thumper rod, I pound the bottom with a big jig, make a lot of noise and kicks up the mud. Its amazing how many times that brings in lakers to check things out.

Well your the one that wanted me to text you with numbers and size of the fish. Must of sucked getting the play by play with pneumonia.  84 was ok for not being out on first ice. Will see if you ever have a chance to catch up to me this year. ;D. Hopefully we can get some new water to fish this weekend. Temp are good only 3 mph wind parts of the night.

I was out of MDB last saturday and we walked all the way out to PF, jigging all the way out there and back. We measured no less then 5" of black ice, everywhere.....and that was last week. By tomorrow I would be surprised if that section of lake is looking at 10" + of black ice. I wouldn't worry about it.

Going out of Vets on Friday, if I hit the shoreline to the right would that be considered PIKE territory.

In decades past, My father used to hit the shore to the left as your walking out for pike.  I've done it as recently as 10 years ago with success.   I've also seen some very large northern pike landed between green and crown islands.

Sweet, and I also haven't heard any loons this year in that area ;D  That one day I thought I was going nuts sitting in my shanty jigging the flats.  I kept saying to myself, who the heck is practicing out here with their loon call ::)

That's funny. I thought the same thing, that someone was making a really good realistic sounding call, then I saw one scooting across the ice.
