Any knowledge of ice yet, or are you just being hopeful?  I don't expect we'll have ice down this way for a little while yet...unless temperatures plummet, it'll be at least a couple or 3 weeks.

I went to check on the ice situation at Gull today. Theres only a little skiff on the small bay at the launch about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick at best.  I never checked any of the other small lakes.  I find it hard to believe there was 2-3 inches on Wellman.  I hope it stays cold this week.  Good Luck.

:cookoo:whats so hard to believe.  there has been ice in front of  my cabin for 2 weeks or so.  plus there were two of us standing on about 2-3 inchs jumping up and down in 4-5 feet of water and it wasnt breaking through.  this was on saturday.  another lake i fish at there were lots of people on it and catching fish.  and they were taking shacks in on saturday afternoon.
plus the snow was shoveled of the ice there a week earlier so i guess it was thick enough then cause he didnt go through!

I just thought wellman being a bigger lake wouldn't have the ice like some of the smaller lakes.  Its been warm this past week too, which could be why there was almost nothing at gull. Or maybe cause wellmans further north theres more ice, LOL.

wellman is almost fully covered.  i am guessing by this weekend or before.  that pic was taken about 40 feet or more from shore infrot of my friends cabin.  my cabin is a few over and i went out almost to where the snow ended but the axe was going threw pretty easy that far out so i turned back.  on the main lake there were a few small open spots.  nothing big.  couldnt launch a boat on wellman but on glad it was wide open and two mile was half covered(cant launch a boat now), but the Tdock was still open for shore fishing

I resemble that remark...then again, I haven't pedalled a bike in almost as long as I've ridden a motorcycle...with my shape (round), I think I prefer the motorized version.

Kind of reminds me of my buddy that went for a vasectomy, comes home after and goes snowmobiling. He takes lots of jumps with the jewels slamming down every time. He swelled up down there like a pair of grapefruits. After he made it home he couldn't move and the ambulance was called. Spent the next 2 days in Hospital :cookoo:

Pigshanks: I had to pick myself up off the floor after a couple minutes of laughing. Hilarious. :roflmao: :roflmao:

it was safe.  plus i knew how deep the water was where i was jumping on the ice.  and now that the lake is covered i would give the locals a week or two before there are snowmobile tracks going across the whole lake.  and i dont mean arund the edges, they go over the middle.  and the ice wasnt that slush ice that southern manitiba had last year at the start.  it was the clearest ice i have ever seen and i spend a lot of time on the ice.
