The lake was about 8 feet when i went out for late duck season, I'm assuming it was about the same come freeze up The key to a lake like this one....find the old river channel with your flasher. The fish will stay in there for most of the winter. Wait for a nice sunny day once there is snow since the water is stained. Idk about right by the river but the north end is your best bet during ice season, especially with it low.

I am going to Autrain Lake tomorrow, I fished the drop on the south west point before and it was moderate fishing. Caught 2 nice perch with a lot of smalls off the launch. Is it worth hiking it all the way up to the north end? Especially if I don't have electronics?

By the looks on the map if you go to where the 94 meets the autrain/forest lake rd.  the dam is right there.  Looks like you can prolly pull off right there on forest lake rd.   It looks like a real small damn and not much water flow, but id still start a good ways away from it and check the ice situation first.  If you could get fairly close i think itd be a good spot.  Havn't been down there myself yet, let us know if you do get to check it out.  If you google map it you can see what im talking about.

Thats the basin you are referring to. I was meaning Autrain Lake which is about 4 miles north from there on the way to Autrain. I have fished the basin this year a few times with some success by the dam.

O ok.  Ive fished the lake close to ten times this year, never did anything to write home about but have gotten a few walleye, pike and perch out from the bat shop there in about 19ft.  On the northwest side you can park along the road and get out from there, theres a couple shacks in shallow, pike spearing im guessing.  I was out passed them last week in about 15fow and had a pretty hot hour last light, got 2 18 inch walleye and missed a few more on tip ups with good sized suckers and golden shiners.  Where abouts do you go out from in the basin the little boat launch? or can you walk right out next to the dam?  Hows the ice can you get right up near the damn safely?  I'd like to give it a shot there soon, something different.  I hit deer lake all day to day, fished the far west end and only picked up a couple perch, couldnt move around a whole lot because of all the slush on the ice but the ice underneath was safe.

Is it too late to sign up for that? I've been wanting to fish in some derby's this year but I either hear about them too late or they are too far away
