How much Tip up line?
« on: Jan 28, 2010, 09:50 PM »
I know it depends on what depth you are fishing, but how much line do you usually have on your tip ups? I usually put about 25 yards on, but I usually only fish about 10-20 ft water and my starting depth is usually about 6-10 feet. I have yet to have a pike even come close to running me out of line, but I'm going to be fishing areas up to about 30-40 feet now.

What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

Just personal preference, but I fill up the spools. For about ~$1.5 of line extra for each tip-up, it might come in handy some day.

I have the big spools on my polar's and they are full. I got spooled the other day by a Ling of all things! I'm not sure exectly how much line is on there but it was a lot and he was all the way out tugging on the tip-up when I got to the hole! Fill your spools up and then you won't have too much to worry about.

Good advice. Thats what I ended up doing. Had a 50 yard spool so I just put it all on. Thanks.

I fill my spools up as well. Had 2 dink pike run almost all the line off of them in a matter of no time if the trigger was shaped like a prop it wouldve been airborn. better to be safe than sorry
