I dont use tip ups very often and when I do I normally dont use trebles...but I believe in Indiana you can use them.

Sure can.  All I use.  Go smaller than you might think.  If you get to them quick, the hooks don't go deep at all.  Great hook up rates

Yup! That's all I use too. Rarely have a problem going deep.

I was going to rig a treble this year and give it a go. Need a leader or tie directly to tip up line?

I tie it to 40 lb flouro leader, but 30 lb might be better.  More bites with flouro vs steel leader.  Should be good for pike, bass, and even caught some huge crappie on bass minnow the other night.

I have had luck both ways. Using a mono leader seems to pay off a little better. I usually use 20 to 30 lb leaders depending on where I'm at. Never been a big fan of steel leaders. They always kink and when they do, I alwAys feel they have to look funny in the water too...

Im not a fan of braid really but i do use it on my tipups for leaders. Very thin, very strong and i dont fish super clear water all the time. Been working for me!

another vote for 20# mono here. trebles are great but i still mostly use a single hook.

i also feel enhancements help get more bites too. the addition of a small blade, rattle, or scented sponge chunk, can give you an attraction edge. i have been using a small chrome willow leaf blade on my leaders for 25years. i wouldnt still do it if i thought it was detrimental in any way. as with all fishing let the lake tell you what to use. in a clear water i opt to just use the blade. on a muddy water i mite use all three, scent, sound, and sight enhancements. scent and sound is very under utilized in ice fishing compared to open water, but it shouldnt be. scent and sound can call predators a lot farther than just sight.

I always use an Octopus hook. Lost one today on tipup. I switched to a treble and landed the next one.
