It's the war on fossil fuels, cut production, drive the prices up! The idea is to make fossil fuels so expensive you will turn down the thermostat, drive less or do without!
Everything is moved by these fossil fuels, prices on all products goes up, leaving you with less money available for these fossil fuels; gasoline, fuel oil and propane!
I wouldn't put your head in the sand on this one...

Amen. Haven't watched ANY of the so-called "news' channels in I don't know how long. If I feel the need to get "caught up on things" I usually go to Reuters, Pew Research, WSG, NPR/PBS, BBC...and there's more. They are unbiased and factually based MOST of the time. Allows me to do my own thinking and research without having an opinion rammed down my throat. Sorry...bit off topic.

The increase will hit natural gas as well, and most people use a lot more of that than propane. They are warning people to budget for heating costs 50% above last year. I am paying almost $4 for gasoline, and that will impact my fishing. I drive 75 miles to the lake, pulling a trailer. Energy will be a lot more expensive in the future, and almost everything uses energy to manufacture and transport. >:(

In the "olden" days of ice fishing, we either dressed warmer, or waited for a warmer day or a sunny one without wind. Didn't have any heaters or shacks, either. At least me and my buddies didn't.
This is me before I had a shack or heater, so many clothes on I couldn't fit in the chair. Back of pic says -10* WC, caught nice r'bows". But...having a porty, little stove, and heater is now pretty nice.... :roflmao:

Reb, we had a set of those exact same lawn chairs when I was a kid ;D
We fished open ice when the weather was warm, or out of the car doors with the car heat blasting when it was cold, before we got our first portable fish house.
I switched to alcohol for my fishing heat a few years ago, but even that was short last winter, so I stocked up over the summer this year in case it is hard to find again. Now I just hope we get enough ice to justify buying 5 gallons of alcohol :roflmao:
As far as the natural gas prices, can't do much about that other than grin, bear it, and turn the thermostat down a bit and wear a sweater 🤷♂️

I actually don't drink booze, developed a pretty bad allergy to it a long time ago.
I use 91% isopropyl. It's cheap, and doesn't give off any nasty fumes.

Whoops, back to the thread!!!!!! I did pick up some six 1 lber's a bit ago, for the Buddy heater. Likewise on the 20lb tanks. I knew propane was gonna jack up. Pretty much set.
UPDATE: Just checked Walmart...the Coleman 2 pk is $17.....holy bejesus gawd!!!!! That's a 215% increase from the usual $6.29 I paid that's on the last one.... :%$#!:

I got a bud that lives way up in northern Michigan and he comes down every once in awhile and brings me 2 20lb propane tanks when i need them,guess theres a amish store that fills them for 10$ a 20lb tank.i just got 2 a few weeks back.i also buy all kinds of coleman white gas at garage sales that people think goes bad for 25 cents to 1$ a gallon.it last forever really and think im up to 17 gallons of that.i have no fear running old coleman heaters and lanterns.

Just hit some stores here...the 1 lb'ers were all around $16-18 for TWO. Insane. Menards included....EXCEPT for Home Depot, theirs are $9.50 for two. Grabbed two 2 pks. Same price online for them at Home Dept...so if ya need some 1lb'ers, better run, don't walk to Home Depot. They be hikin' up soon, too.

yeah im cutting all the dead standing ash before we move.i already trimmed all my apple trees and have that all split and chunked up for smoking wood.theres no trees on the old farm we might move too.theres probably 75 or more ash trees to cut and split.the new gold rush is firewood,last few years it was medical/ recreational marijuana,which is still a strong economy here in Michigan.

I checked my local farm and fleet after reading this thread, the 1lb bottles are $14.99 for a 4 pack. For just one it was $4.29. Pretty sure that’s they price they’ve been for the last few seasons, when not on sale. Lots in stock, seems like we are good in my area. Same with turkeys, I saw someone mention that, Aldi’s freezer section is overflowing with them, guessing they just put them out. Price was what it’s been for the last few years on those too.

These trees have been dead standing for many years.theres no borers anymore,they kill living trees and move on.every ash tree around here has already been attacked and killed by the ash bore beetle.locals on my street buy it anyways..mostly in a 5 mile radius in a little farm town.thanks for making me look like a ass tho.lol,The ash bore beetle problem is not bad anymore here in Michigan,at least in allegan co. because they ravaged all the ash trees and have no living trees left.

It seems like it is becoming more and more common, I know a handful of people who have it, and now it's 3 people just in this thread. It just hit me out of the blue one day several years back. My lips and tongue swell up, and my face and neck break out in an itchy rash. I even have to be careful with otc cold meds.

Not sure what the cost of Propane is around here yet but I'm about to find out. Need a refill. I went to a 5# tank 2 years ago and haven't looked back. Soooo much more convenient...2 places that carry bulk 10 minutes from me... than those 1# grenades and much cheaper (after the initial cost of the tank).

It's the idjit news stations that hype this crap up and create all the "hoarding". Already yapping about short supply of turkeys for the holidays. Ya, there are a lot of things in short supply, and that have skyrocketed, steaks at $10 a lb and up, pork prices nuts, etc. That's why I buy when things go on sale, and not until then. I just do without, unless it's a must. Use yer head instead of running aound without one. People in this day and age don't know how to do that. We baby-boomers that grew up with parents that had to ration becuz of WWII know how to stretch a buck and do without just fine. ::)

Better run to get a Flame King refillable... best choice I made last year. Nice tanks and super easy to refill, probably break even on the purchase this year no problem

Summer 2020 propane for my home was $0.99/ gal for summer fill. Pre-pay for winter at $1.19/ gal. We fill it up in the summer and typically in January again to get us through the year.
Summer 2021 propane was $1.59. Pre-pay for winter at $1.74.

Flame king has been out of stock on their refillable 1lb tanks for quite some time. Most places that do have them have a serious markup. If anyone sees some that are able to be delivered please advise. There was one store I forget at the moment which one but it was store pickup only.

Problem is, you'll still have to buy the propane to refill the Flame Kings...and it's already skyrocketed. Has here, anyway. If it hasn't where you live, I'd suggest filling up and maybe grabbing another 20 lb'er of it...the swap'n return or straight fill, whichever is cheaper.

Got six 1 pounders this afternoon for $26.69 plus tax. That's $4.74 per 1 pounder including tax. Could have grabbed more, but I have four more in the garage.

Locked in @ $0.699 a liter for the winter. Pretty sure that's the same as last year.
That works out to $2.04 US a gallon so not bad.
Maybe I will be able to afford food after all!!! ;D

Best deals I've found local to me in sask is 19.99 for 3- 1lb. A single one is $8.99/can. I think this is on par from years past. I only use them for cooking so i don't burn through them too fast. Maybe 1-2 a season. I picked up enough for a couple years now. Time to fill the 20lb ones.

Really, that's insane. I know the one town in Montana that has 5 refineries is the most expensive place in the state for gas, don't get that.

We owned a convenience store and sold gas. Short answer is further from refinary less store pays for petroleum but higher on transport. Closer pays more for petroleum but less for transport. It's supposed to Ballance out by it rarely does. Glad to be out of that racket.

Well, that doesn't work here.....our gas is that worthless corn-squeezin's (Ethanol), and we have big plants around here, 'cuz of all the corn we grow, but gas sure ain't cheap! $3.24 gal right now for ethanol garbage gas...

They are already conceding many can’t afford either an electric vehicle or such a hefty increase in gasoline taxes and considering exemptions base on salary and "needs"... government will decide whether you "need" to go fishing, hunting, trapping, etc???
I'm just saying don't bury your head in the sand on this, get out and vote accordingly this November!

Bought a 6-pack of Coleman propane one-pounders last week at BJs Warehouse Club in Rotterdam, New York. Paid $21.99 plus tax.

They offe price breaks on propane at 11 gallons, 21 gallons, and iirc 31 gallons and 41 gallons.
So by bringing in enough tanks to hit at least the 11 gallon mark saves me several cents a gallon.
Last time i brought in my 100# tank 2 bbq tanks and my 11# ice fishing tank.
This got me over the 21 gallon mark for an additional savings.
They said the price was steady for the last 5+ years but now it's going up.

That's no joke. I commute about 40 minutes to work... gas at the stations right by my job this morning... $3.79. 2 towns over closer to home (about 15 miles to the east)... $3.42.

Inflation really sucks! But people are getting what they voted for.
At least they're telling us the election was honest. Not sure all of us believe it!
If my suggestion helps someone save a few cents at least it helps a little bit.
Wish I had a suggestion that would make it even cheaper but, that's all I got.

Just refilled my 5# tank at my local propane dealer...$3.75. After speaking with him he said refilling of the smaller tanks will not see any increase. Says they do it as a convenience for customers...not a money maker. Home heating, etc. on the other hand. Different story.

I put in my order for heating pellets last night while the prices were still ok. Supposed to run out of pellets early this year and prices will reflect it if you can find any.

I broke even on my Flame Kings a few years ago, it's all money saved at this point. I figure I go through about 3 20lb tanks a year. Last year was $12.99 to fill a 20lber so about about $40. If it doubles this year is just an extra $40. Not ideal, but not terrifying either.

If it stays consistent across the land, there won't be much of an increase in the smaller fills...20# or less...as this is not where the propane businesses make their money. It's a small market in comparison. But those that purchase large quantities as for home heating and the like? Probably need to be prepared.

Makes no sense. U-haul was $3.99 today; another place was $3.39. Topped off my 20 lb'er at that place. U-haul has sign that says propane vehicle fill is $3.59; LP tanks $3.99. What a friggin' racket. I'll never go back there again. :nono:
