Bumping it out anther week does not look like it will help the safe ice issue... Should we consider a different place, with more ice?

I can't make it but there are machines on large bodies of water in the berkshires.  Perhaps this isn't the year to pick a place centrally located or go back to the cove as I suspect that has plenty of ice although the water levels have been all over the place.

I'm not that familiar with Central MA water bodies, but the FB group Northeast Iceman just had a derby last Sunday on Monomomac and they were saying 14" of ice there.

Maybe switch a bit more central and do open water:-) No doubt that is doable.

More Central? I am in Athol "North Central" MA and I was looking at guys today on the ice... Quabbin is about as Central as we can get and it is open, but they won't let us in. The Conn. River is open (except Bartens Cove which is being fished) little West of Central but I don't know any available spots for everyone to fish. I don't know what a group of anglers would do to fish some open water, drown PowerBait? Not me. Lake Ellis up here in Athol has safe ice as of today, which could possibly be a backup...

I went to Dunn State Puddle today and was on 8 inches of ice... and a skunking.

I also saw someone on Whalom but the deep end was open.
I like everything in excess, even my moderation.

The way the weather reports keep changing, we will just need to wait a few more days to make any decisions...

I live in hubbardston
If you don’t think long pond will be safe
Why don’t you consider bents pond
It’s right on trump 68
Easy unloading and plenty of parking last Sunday there was 20 trucks parked there so no longer a secret
The pond has crappie nice pickerel and lots of bass
As long as there is not a west wind it’s great
Think about it
Plenty of ice right now
I can’t make it but would love to see a get together

It's not ideal for everybody but we could combine the Cheshire Derby with a gathering.  I'm not sure if there would be enough parking with the derby though.

It's tough finding the right ice to parking this year.

Great ice, limited parking . Chit ice , ample parking.

I went to Goose Pond recently when there was a derby going on and I didn’t know about it till I got there. Parking was a real problem. I don’t think it would be a good idea to go where there is a derby going on. No way there’s gonna be enough parking.

Can we sound off as to who thinks they will try to make it if we find safe ice, it could be helpful to where in regards to parking.

I know myself and papa-sly Mike wanted to go. I just can't think of another place with good ice and parking for many.

I would go. The Bents Pond idea is possibly a good choice by W8t B8t.

I believe the only parking would be across the street at the flea market.  Probably need permission for that. I know they've done derbies there so there has to be a way to get permission.

Don't really have a dog in this fight when discussing ponds more than an hour or so out from me.....but for a more eastern option, and one I might be able to attend, what about Forge Pond in Westford?  Looks like good parking and access.  Not sure about ice in that area though.

After Friday, it's gonna be tough finding enough ice anywhere in Eastern mass .

Anyone live near Tully Lake ? I think that would have decent parking. I was on a pond a few towns east in northern mass with 9" on Tuesday.  Thinking (hoping) it might have the same?

I am near Tully and can check it out, but the fishing there is very hit-or-miss in my experience... I plan to check out a number of spots Friday afternoon and see what our choices might be... So far it looks like parking will not be that big a problem with only about 5 anglers saying they are coming...

We just can't win this year. I'm going to try to get out one more time this weekend and then put my gear away. I love ice fishing but I've done enough 2 hour drives this season and even if we get another cold spell its not going to be as effective as the days get longer.

As for bents everyone has been parking at rietta or right on 68 where you unload last Sunday over 20 trucks pulled off there no issues either way
There was about 8 inches of ice
Last week

Yeah that is cool.  Wasn't sure if they didn't want you parking there.

Is this where you access the pond?  I remember a friend telling me when he did a derby there, they went down a short trail across from the lot across the street.

Do they just not enforce the no parking signs along the road at bents?

That's what I was wondering too. I see the signs but they looked faded.

Here is an ice report that I my experience, when I was there today. It is not a report for tomorrow or the next day. So,  if you walk out on the ice; spud as you go, and if you go through don't bother to say "But Stripernut/Allan said". So that is now out of the way;

I hit 4 lakes/ponds today and the only one that was not in (what I would call fishable condition for a group) was Long Pond in Rutland. The ice that was there was safe for the moment, but a bunch was open, and the edges were weak;

Bents/Sawyer across from Rietta was in good shape (all things considered) with 5" of black ice and 6-7 inches of strong white ice on top;

Brigham Pond, in Hubbardston, had as much with some guys out fishing today;

The thickest ice was at Queens lake with a thick layer of hard white ice and around 7 inches of black;

Each of the 3 has plenty of parking; Brents is across the road (Rietta lot, no "No Parking" Signs), Brigham is all over the place, and Queen's is a little up the road there is parking for fishermen. Where ever we end up cleats  WILL be needed. The only one I have not fished is Brents, but I have done well on the other two.

Sunday is forecasted to be overcast and for me, that always helps the fishing. Even with tomorrow being warm, without rain I believe the ice will hold.

I can fish any of them, with Bents/Sawyer looking like the most active and easy to find, but if "the Group" wants to meet somewhere else I am open to suggestions.
